Rio Vista is an AVID school, so we use Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization, and Reading in our lessons every day (WICOR).

Our first WICOR of the Month AVID strategy is "Give One/Get One."

Please ask your teacher about the WICOR of the Month, and ask your student about their experience doing "Give One/Get One" in class!

See below for information about our Parent Literacy collaboration staring on October 9th here at Rio Vista!!

Students will be taking the CogAT test over the next two weeks (in 3rd and 4th grade only). Teachers sent home a letter with more details about when they are giving the assessment. It is used to find out which students might qualify as Gifted and Talented for GATE designation.

Please let me know if you would like to serve on the School Site Council. This body reviews and approves the site budget each year and works with families and teachers to establish priorities for Rio Vista. Please let me know and I'll be sending the election form out at the end of the week.

Please remind your students to use the "No Thank You" bin for unwanted food appropriately. Below is a reminder about the rules and expectations. Thanks for your support!

Reach out to Dr. Frank if you are interested in representing Rio Vista at the district Title 1 Parent Advisory Committee.

Meetings are held on October 24th, December 19th, February 20th, May 15th.

PYLUSD is seeking individuals to serve as members of our "Literature Review Committee" for the 24-25 school year. Click HERE for more information.

The Mad Tea Party will be a sensory and vocabulary lesson event

1. Builds nerve connections in the brain that enable kids to complete more complex learning tasks.
2. Supports language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction.
3. Enhances memory and can help calm kids who are anxious or frustrated.
4. Allows kids to learn different sensory attributes, such as hot, cold, sticky, dry, wet, crunchy, sweet, salty, tart, etc.
5. Helps develop awareness of their senses through hands-on learning.

With the support of our PTA, Rio Vista is again participating in the Reflections contest. Students can submit their art (many genres can be used) to express themselves. This year, the theme is "Accepting Imperfections." Students can show how they use a growth mindset to be kind to themselves and others. See below for more information.

By popular demand we are bringing back Disciplina Positiva to Rio Vista! This is a Spanish-language parent class series that will happen on Tuesdays at 8:30am in the MPR. We hope to see you there, and if you are a returning member of the group, please bring a new friend!

Congratulations to Ms. Gibbs' winning class! They are this week's winners of our weekly perfect attendance challenge, and they will be getting to keep the trophy for next week and every student will be getting a gift certificate for Raising Canes. Congratulations!

It's normal for students to have a difficult time transitioning back to school. See below for information about how to support your child if this is a challenge for them, courtesy of our amazing Counselor, Mrs. Raja.

Remember that instruction begins at 7:50am. Supervision and free school breakfast are available starting at 7:25am, so we encourage you to plan your drop-off for between 7:30-7:40am each day.

We averaged 94.9% for the week...that's UP from last week, and we had over 94% on Friday for the first time since I've been keeping track! Thank you for working to make sure our Leopards are learning every day!

REMEMBER, MISSING ONLY 2 DAYS PER MONTH IS THE SAME AS MISSING AN ENTIRE MONTH OF SCHOOL FOR THE YEAR!!

**We need your help with tardies! We begin instruction AT 7:50am, so please arrive early enough for students to get all of their instructional minutes

Our number one priority is the safety of all Rio Vista students and families. Please use the crosswalk in the front parking lot, and only load or unload students in the valet line (do not drop off in the staff parking lanes).

Please do not walk in the wheelchair accessible area (marked by blue stripes) where we load students into the cars.

Also, PLEASE DO NOT PARK ALONG ANY RED CURB as that space needs to be available for emergency services in the case of an emergency. Please be courteous to our neighbors and do not park in front of anyone's driveway.

Make sure to remind your students to pay attention at the dismissal area. If we have to call them more than 3 times and they do not come to the loading zone, we will ask you to go back around in line and we'll try again.

PYLUSD's Family Resource Center, (FRC) in partnership with Family Health Matters, will be offering free assistance with MediCal and CalFresh applications. The FRC is located next to Topaz Elementary. Students are going to have access to Reflex Math (via CLEVER), a program purchased by the district in order to provide students with the practice necessary to solidify their basic math skills and facts. It's designed for students 1st grade and beyond.

This is a really fun "gamified" program that students love using, which they will have access to at school and at home. They practice a "back to basics" curriculum and earn points that allow them to personalize their home page.

Teachers and parents will all be receiving an email from Reflex Math this week with instructions for how to set up classes and add students.
