From the Health office...
Next week, October 15th and 16th, your student may be participating in a school based screening program conducted by certified hearing and vision technicians. Screening is a simple method by which children with a potential problem may be identified. V/H screening tests, which shall not be considered examinations, shall be conducted in accordance with rules and regulations of the Department of Public Health.
Per Public Act 093-0504 vision screening will be done, as mandated, for the following children: preschool, kindergarten, second grade, eighth grade, new to the school district, students receiving special education services and teacher referrals. Additional grades may be screened at the discretion of the screener. Vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye and vision evaluation by an eye doctor. Your child is not required to undergo this vision screening if an optometrist or ophthalmologist has completed and signed a report form indicating that an exam has been administered within the previous 12 months and that evaluation is on file at the school. This notice is not a permission to test and is not required to be returned. Vision screening is not an option. If a vision examination report is not on file at the school for your child, your child in the mandated age/grade/group will be screened.
The following populations/grades are mandated for hearing screening in Illinois: preschool, kindergarten, first, second, third, special education, teacher referrals and students new to the district. In lieu of the screening services required, a completed and signed report form, indicating that the child has had an ear examination by a physician and an audiological evaluation completed by an audiologist within the previous 12 months is acceptable. In cases of known hearing loss, and audiological evaluation completed by a license audiologist within the previous 12 months may be accepted instead of threshold monitoring services.
Please remember screening is not diagnostic and it is important not to misinterpret it as such.

Halloween Parade/Party and Costume Guidelines
We will celebrate Halloween by having class parties at the end of the day on Thursday, October 31st. The students will be permitted to wear their costume for this party. Students who wish to dress in costumes, must ensure that these costumes may easily be put on and removed. Furthermore, the costumes must be comfortable enough to sit at their desk. Students may NOT wear scary costumes or scary masks. We will also NOT allow any costumes with guns, blood, swords, knives, or other weapons. In addition, no “web shooting’ devices should be brought as part of a costume. Also, please do not send any treat bags that contain food or candy as they will NOT be allowed to be handed out and will be sent back home with your child.
Weather permitting, we will do a parade outside. It will go around the school and parents are welcome to come watch. The parade will begin at 2:10 PM. If the weather isn't good, then we will do the parade inside, and parents will not be able to attend. Thank you for your help in making this a fun day for our students. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Klinsky or Mrs. Cruz.
