Clinic News
- If you have medication in the clinic for your student, please pick it up by 12:30 pm on 5/24/24. Medication not picked up by 12:30 pm will be disposed of as it cannot be stored over the summer.
- If you plan to have meds in the clinic for the 2024/2025 school year it will require new physician’s orders and parent/guardian permission. All medication must be in the original container, legible label, and not expired.
- Emergency carry medication like epi-pens, avi-Q, and inhalers must have updated paperwork for the new school. The Physician’s statement must say CARRY ON PERSON and a parent permission form filled out. Please remember it is not LEGAL for your student to carry emergency medication or keep them in their car until the process is complete with Mrs. Ingratta’s signature.
- Other medical conditions require a new physician’s statement each school year. Student’s grow, medication changes, and limitations change. This information is required to create the most up to date care plan for your student.
- Thank you for trusting your student’s medical needs with me this school year. They are smart, kind, generous, and a pleasure to be around. I have learned so much from them. Insect body parts, code names, the type of questions on the History exam, and dating lingo. I hope you enjoy the precious “Sweet days of summer, the jasmine in bloom, July dressed up and playing her tune”. (Seals and Croft)

Service Hour Opportunity for students
Rotary Park Merritt Island holds an annual Teen Service Camp the week of Memorial Day (this year its Tu May 28 – Fri May 31). We earn about 3 service hours per day (~ 12 hours in 4 days) and for the rest of each day we have lots of fun.
We are limited to participants ages 13-17. (Unfortunately, we cannot take students under 13, as our volunteering locations to not always allow it.) It is a small camp, usually we have about 10 teens and 2 adults. This year, we’ll be helping clean up a County park, working with Restore Our Shores at the Brevard Zoo, serving meals at Matthew’s Hope, and doing a beach cleanup at a Florida State park. The cost for the week is $60.05. Camp begins at 9 AM and ends at 4 PM each day. Camp shirts cost $5.67 each and should be worn daily.
The camp week is not full yet and I would hate for the last few spaces to stay empty. Registration is NOT available online; please let interested families know they can call (321)455-1385 to sign up.
As part of our ongoing improvement process, the District has reviewed our annual enrollment process. The following changes to are highlighted below.
- Simplified and condensed the amount of information being collected while ensuring that critical information is embedded in one process.
- Pre-populated information on sections that have already been provided to the District.
- Eliminated the need of two proofs of residence verification.
- Change of timeline from March to July.
- Modified language to make it more parent friendly.
- Reduced signatures from 11 to ONLY 1!
- Added a ENROLLMENT VERIFICATION form to assist schools with enrollment numbers.
At this time, your ENROLLMENT VERIFICATION should have already been completed. The Annual Re-enrollment form will be available on July 8, 2024. More information will be forthcoming

College Applications
Juniors
- You should start lining up who you will ask for any needed letters of rec for college or scholarship applications.
- Make sure you have a resume to give to those you ask to write letters of rec. Here’s a sample template (You will have to make a copy.)
- Start searching for scholarship opportunities. While they may not be open yet for the 24-25 cycle, keep track of the name, how to apply, when it opens, and when it’s due.
- If you haven’t started a college list…NOW is the time! Research colleges that could be a good fit for you, visit all kinds of colleges to get a feel for what you like and what you don’t. Keep track of all the particulars on a form like this one.
- Here is a collection of resources that may help you get started and answer some of the more common questions. Be on the lookout next fall for our Common App work days. These will be opportunities to get help with your college applications or just have some quiet time and space to work on them. (Permission slips required)
- It is not too early to start your Common App account and fill in your family, educational, and background information (do NOT complete the actual individual colleges portion yet until after Aug. 1) and your college essay. The prompts are posted in Google Classroom and on the Common App website.
- You may also want to consider creating a brand new (and appropriate) email account to use for all things college and scholarships. It is recommended you simply use your first and last names and any punctuation or numbers to make it unique.
Seniors: Congratulations! We will miss you! Best of luck in all your future endeavors…we believe in you!
Test Scores
While it may be too late to take tests for many college applications, you can still take the test(s) for Bright Futures. If you are a junior you might be thinking of starting the testing process to see where you stand. Here are the next tests:
- There are no more SATs for the class of 2024 to qualify for Bright Futures. The last qualifying SAT will be given June1 and late registration ended May 21.
- Regular registration deadline for the June 8 ACT is May 3, late registration is May 19 (+ late fee). There is one more ACT test this Bright Futures cycle on July 13.
- Visit the CLT Website to register for CLT test and find practice tests and other information. All Florida public schools and some Florida and/or out of state private schools accept the CLT, as does Bright Futures.
Upcoming Events and College Visits
No current events
FAFSA and Bright Futures
- Check your FAFSA portal and be sure everything is processed correctly.
- If your student has decided which Florida school they will attend, they should go into their Bright Futures account and do 2 things: check that their award letter says what they expect it to say based on Semester 1 data (any new test scores, hours, GPA, etc. after that will be reflected in the summer run.) and update their first choice school if needed for disbursement purposes. If there are any discrepancies or unexpected information in their account, they should contact Florida Department of Education Office of Student Financial Assistance.
