Arrival Procedures
- Parents are reminded that students may arrive between 8:15-8:45 AM.
- If you are dropping off or picking up, it is best to park in the lot adjacent to the gazebo. Please avoid parking where "NO PARKING" signs are posted. Failure to do so often results in difficulty with arrival and departure for our buses.
- KINDERGARTEN, GRADE 1, and GRADE 2 will enter through the cafeteria each morning
- Grade 3-5 will enter through the front office doors and proceed to the gymnasium until the bell rings.
- Students arriving after 8:45am must be escorted to the front door by an adult to be buzzed in by the office. For safety, please do not have your child walk in alone.
- Students will be marked tardy if they arrive after 8:45am.
- MORNING DROP OFF- Please pull in the front circle and have your child exit on the passenger side. If your child needs assistance getting out of the car, please park in the lower lot near the gazebo and walk your child up the walkway. This will ensure traffic moves smoothly for busses and cars. Thank you for your understanding.
Dismissal Procedures
- Please send in a note to the classroom teacher if you choose to pick-up your child from school on any given day. If you are picking your child up on a regular basis, only one note is needed and we will place your child’s name on the list for the year. *Form will be sent home*
- Record the name of who will be picking up if it is someone other than a parent. Any person picking up students from school should be listed on your student information form.
- Please remember to date all notes.
- Students will be dismissed from their exterior classroom door at 2:55pm
- PARK IN THE LOWER LOT NEAR GAZEBO, NOT NEAR TENNIS COURTS OR BUILDING. We will kindly ask you to move as our daycare vans pick up in that area.
- Signs will be outside classrooms to easily identify which room it is.
- There will be a clipboard on a hook outside the door with a list. You will find your child's name, sign your name, return clip board to hook, and wait for your child to be dismissed at 2:55pm.
- Always have identification with you at DISMISSAL. Safety first :)
- The classroom teacher will send your child out to you when the bell rings.
- If someone "new" is picking up your child, please have them arrive by 2:45pm and report to the office for an identification check.
***If you plan to pick up your child prior to the end of the school day without sending in a note, it is very helpful to call the school prior to your arrival. This will ensure your child's teacher and your child have been notified of the early dismissal and can be properly prepared to leave school upon your arrival.

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based, tiered framework for supporting students’ behavioral, academic, social, emotional, and mental health. When implemented with fidelity, PBIS improves social emotional competence, academic success, and school climate. It also improves teacher health and wellbeing. It is a way to create positive, predictable, equitable and safe learning environments where everyone thrive.
This year students will earn Stars and Class Stars to use for monthly incentives or cash in at the PBIS cart! Our focus is that North Scituate students are "Respectful, Responsible, and Ready to Learn".
Second Step- SEL Curriculum
Second Step® Elementary is a research-based social-emotional learning (SEL) program designed to improve students’ social-emotional skills, including growth mindset, goal-setting, emotion management, kindness and empathy, and problem-solving. Studies show that these skills can support students’ school performance, increase positive social behaviors, and reduce
conduct problems such as bullying. SEL programs can also create positive classroom and school climates. Second Step Elementary is taught in the classroom, to all students, and helps students develop a common set of skills and strategies that can be practiced, used, and reinforced throughout the school community, including at home.
This curriculum will be used with all students K-5.
Visit https://www.secondstep.org/ for more information.
STEAM Enrichment
Beginning in late September, students will have a 40-minute STEAM enrichment block weekly focused on various activities related to science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. This block of time is in addition to art, music, physical education, and library. A special thanks to our STEAM teachers, Ms.Bucalo, Mr. Cullen, and Mr. Labossiere, Mrs.Downs, and Mrs. Ethier for supporting this important initiative!

Pop Tab Collection
A tiny item that makes a BIG difference for others is the aluminum pop tab! Last year our school collected and donated more than 2 recycling bins full of aluminum pop tabs to Ronald McDonald House in Providence. Ronald McDonald House uses the proceeds from the recyclable aluminum to help fund their “home away from home” for families with children in Hasbro Children’s Hospital.
Students are great collectors! Please help them find opportunities to round up lots of pop tabs…and to spread the word to family and friends that we are collecting them here at school.
Your child may leave pop tabs at the office, pass them to his or her teacher, or deliver them to Room 6 (Mrs. O’Grady’s class) at any time. Thanks for helping North Scituate Elementary School help others.
