A Note from the Admin Team
Dear Menchaca Families,
We hope you enjoyed our Annual Storybook Character Parade! It’s always a pleasure to welcome you to campus and involve you in the activities that make our community special. The parade is a wonderful way to celebrate reading, literacy, and creativity together. This year, we moved the parade outdoors for the first time, creating an even better viewing experience—and the weather made it all the more enjoyable.
This past Friday, many of our teachers used the student holiday to meet with parents and discuss student progress. If you missed this opportunity and have any academic or social-emotional concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher to schedule a conference. Your involvement every step of the way is essential to your child's success, as it strengthens the home-school connection and supports their growth.
Thank you for being such an important part of our school’s success!
Regards,
MECC Leadership Team

10 Ways to Help Your Child Express How They Feel
Helping children learn to express their emotions is a crucial skill that lays the foundation for healthy emotional development. Verbalizing feelings not only enhances communication but also fosters self-awareness and emotional intelligence. Here are practical strategies to empower your child to put their emotions into words:
1. Create a safe space. Build an environment where your child feels comfortable sharing their feelings without fear of judgment. Offer reassurance that all emotions are valid.
2. Be a role model. Demonstrate emotional expression yourself. Discuss your feelings openly and encourage conversations about emotions.
3. Identify emotions. Teach your child about different emotions and provide examples. This equips them with a vocabulary to describe what they're feeling.
4. Active listening. When your child shares their emotions, listen attentively without interrupting. Show empathy and understanding to validate their feelings.
5. Use storytelling. Utilize age-appropriate stories or characters to help your child identify their emotions in different situations.
6. Name that feeling. Encourage your child to put a name to their emotions. This helps them process and communicate their inner experiences.
7. Ask open-ended questions. Engage in conversations that encourage more than a simple "yes" or "no" response. Ask questions like "How did that make you feel?" to prompt deeper reflection.
8. Art and play. Children may find it easier to express emotions through art, role-playing, or storytelling.
9. Teach coping strategies. In addition to verbal expression, teach your child health ways to manage their emotions, promoting emotional regulation.
10. Celebrate efforts. Acknowledge and celebrate your child's attempts at expressing their emotions. Encourage progress rather than perfection.

October Attendance Winner!
A huge shoutout to Yellow Hallway for winning the October Attendance Incentive and earning a Spooky Dance Party! Your commitment to showing up every day made it possible, and we’re so proud of your dedication. Let’s keep up the great attendance and keep the fun going!
Did you know in Texas, attendance rules apply to younger students in both kindergarten and pre-kindergarten once they are enrolled:
Although Texas law doesn’t require school attendance until age 6, if you enroll your child in kindergarten before this age, they are required to attend school regularly. This includes following the "90% Rule," which means they must attend at least 90% of school days in a semester to move on to the next grade. Regular attendance helps your child stay on track academically and adjust to the routines of school.
Pre-K is not mandatory in Texas, but once your child is enrolled in a public pre-kindergarten program, attendance is expected, just as in other grade levels. Consistent attendance supports early learning, helps children build school routines, and makes sure they don’t miss out on valuable educational experiences.
Making sure your child attends school each day helps them develop good habits and gives them the best chance to succeed in school.
For questions regarding your child's attendance, please contact our PEIMS/Attendance Clerks:
