Collegiate Academy at TCC Northeast
September 8th, 2024
Message from the Principal
Phoenix Family,
We can't wait to welcome you to Collegiate Academy’s Open House tomorrow, September 9th at 6:00 p.m.! This is a fantastic opportunity to follow your student’s modified schedule and meet their teachers. During your student’s college classes or study hall, you'll also hear from our partners at TCC.
Before Open House begins, join us for a Collegiate Academy Family Booster Club meeting from 5:45 to 6:00 p.m. If you’re new to CA, think of the Booster Club as a supportive community similar to a PTA. Our Booster Club is a dedicated group of families who assist teachers, student clubs, and UIL organizations through volunteering and resource gathering. We encourage ALL parents to become involved with the Phoenix Family Booster Club, whether through volunteering or donating, to help us support our school community.
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
All In, All Together,
Mrs. Jackson
P.S. Juniors & Seniors - Make sure to sign up for the UTA college visit on September 29th if you are interested! More details below!
Open House - September 9th
Our CA Booster Club will host a meeting from 5:45-6:00 pm in the Common Area where they will present about ways to serve and get involved. During the evening, they will be set up outside the Common Area for those who want to join, purchase spirit wear, and/or ask questions.
You will walk your student's high school schedule, meet with their teachers, and hear important information for the 24-25 school year. We are also excited to share that our educational partners from TCC will be here; parents and students will get to hear from them during their student’s study hall/college class/independent study period(s).

Clubs & Organizations
Spirit Squad
We would like to congratulate the Spirit Squad member for the 24-25 School Year:
Cooking Club
Cooking club is in full swing! This week our club, led by Zara Aslam, made cookies in our air fryers. While most made the dough at home, we did have a group successfully make the dough in-club using a recipe of their own creation. Next week we’re having a fall treats theme. Each group will decide what they’re bringing and who is responsible for what. We have many new members, and everyone did a great job. Thanks so much.
We will be looking forward to a few hands-on field trips and some guest chefs and bakers.
Also, if anyone would like to support these amazing students, cooking club is always in need of paper goods, plasticware, napkins, parchment paper, ziploc baggies, paper towels, and cups. We are also hoping to expand our supply of mixing bowls, spoons, measuring utensils, and measuring cups.
Thanks so much!

District Information
Three Facts About the VATRE
GCISD registered voters will be asked to consider adding three cents to the Maintenance & Operations tax rate through a voter-approved tax ratification election on the November 5 ballot. Here are three quick facts:
Even with the VATRE, GCISD’s total tax rate will be lower - Even with the three additional pennies from the passage of the VATRE, the GCISD total overall tax rate (M&O plus I&S) will be lowered by $0.0014.
Funds are not subject to recapture - Tax funds collected through these additional three pennies would stay within GCISD and not be subject to recapture, meaning that 100 percent of these funds would remain in the district.
The three-cent increase to the Maintenance and Operations (M&O) tax rate would generate approximately $6 million - These funds would be for school district operations, which includes instruction, staff, transportation, maintenance, extracurricular activities and other daily operating expenses, excluding projects included in the recent bond. Bonds are paid for by a separate Interest & Sinking (I&S) fund, which is debt service.

High School Health Just Say YES - Freedom to Succeed Parent Preview
High School Principals - Please include the information below in your parent newsletter this week. A message with this same information will be shared through Skyward on September 6. The consent form mentioned in the letter will be live in Skyward on September 19. Consent reminders will be sent via Skyward as we approach the consent deadlines.
GCISD uses several resources and programs for high school health curriculum in order to be proactive in our delivery of education concerning human sexuality.
Freedom to Succeed will be presented to your student according to the campus schedule, found in the Parent Preview Letter linked below.
After the Parent Preview has been conducted, every parent will be asked to indicate their preference of participation for their child electronically in the forms section of Skyward or by completing and returning a paper consent form by the deadlines established on the Parent Preview Letter linked below for each campus.
These deadlines allow each campus time to adequately prepare spaces, supervision, and account for student attendance. Thank you in advance for adhering to these deadlines.
