Partnering for a safe school community
As we near the end of the school year, we want to thank our families for their partnership in keeping our schools safe. Your support and conversations at home reinforce the importance of making good choices and reporting concerns appropriately.
How We Address Threats
We take every threat seriously, whether made on social media, in person or another way. Our administrators work closely with our Safety and Security team and local law enforcement to investigate each case. If a credible threat is identified, we notify staff and families immediately. Learn more about our safety protocols on the district website.
Keeping Schools Safe Together
This spring, students in grades 6-12 will continue learning about the real consequences of making threats through informational graphics posted on Canvas. Even offhand comments or social media posts can have serious repercussions. Families are also encouraged to listen to our BV Unmuted podcast episode from this fall, "Understanding Threats and Their Consequences," featuring safety experts discussing school security.

How You Can Help
✔ Report concerns to school staff or through our online system.
✔ Avoid spreading rumors — instead, report concerns directly to administrators or law enforcement.
Your partnership is key to a safe and supportive school environment. Thank you for your continued trust!
Strategic Plan Committee advances work on strategies and core values
The Strategic Plan Steering Committee met on March 25, continuing the exciting work of shaping the district's future. With the plan nearing its final stages, the meeting focused on affirming the mission statement, refining strategic priorities and gathering feedback on core values and action steps.
Mission Statement Reaffirmed
The committee reaffirmed the proposed mission statement — a clear, memorable reflection of the district’s purpose:
"Cultivating lifelong learners prepared to navigate their future with purpose."
Reviewing Strategic Priorities
After thoughtful discussion, the committee confirmed a three-priorities framework that emphasizes the interconnected nature of the district's goals and the essential role of exemplary educators.
Advancing Academic Excellence & Exceptional Student Experiences
Empowering Exemplary Educators & Staff
Fostering Supportive & Healthy School Communities
Refining Core Values and Action Steps
The committee expressed strong support for the district’s core values — Belonging, Student-Centered and Excellence — and is exploring refinements to ensure alignment. Members also reviewed strategies and action steps to ensure they reflected community feedback.
An update to the Board of Education is planned in April followed by an opportunity for staff, families and patrons to review the draft and provide feedback. As the district moves forward, community members are encouraged to stay connected by visiting the Strategic Plan webpage for updates.

Changing the game: BVW student excels as a student-athlete, paraprofessional
As a student-athlete at Blue Valley West, Joey Svoboda has been excelling in the classroom and on the field. The senior has been making an impact in more ways than one. Inspired by his younger cousin, Joey first took on a peer mentor role in the LIFT (Learning through Intensive Functional Teaching) program during his junior year. Using the same dedication and composure he displays in athletics, he now supports students with communication and behavioral needs as a paraprofessional.
“When you look at the fact that he is not only a peer and a student and an athlete and an employee all within one building at Blue Valley West — that's a lot of roles and hats to balance..." said Jennifer Buehler, Blue Valley West special education teacher. "The fact that Joey initiated all of those tasks and roles, I think, speaks volumes to his leadership.”

Join BV Well for an event on keeping children safe from drugs
Join BV Well and the Blue Valley Drug & Alcohol Prevention Task Force for this event focused on fentanyl and how parents can keep their children safe. The event will include a screening of the 30-minute special The New Drug Talk followed by a presentation from featured speaker Libby Davis of the Cooper Davis Memorial Foundation.
Libby Davis is a wife, mother, sister, aunt, daughter and nurse. Her story of fentanyl is a very personal family tragedy. She is the mom of Cooper, a 16-year-old who died from fentanyl poisoning in 2021. She and her husband, along with the rest of their family, founded the Cooper Davis Memorial Foundation also known as “Keepin’ Clean for Coop,” a nonprofit organization with a focus on spreading awareness and providing education about the dangers of fentanyl and fake pills.
