Riding the Wave of Excellence!
September 15, 2024
Dear Mission Families,
Thank you for your presence at Back to School Night. It's always a joy to witness the enthusiasm of students and families as we embark on a new year of learning and discovery together. A special thank you to our PTO, Ms. R. (Community School Coordinator), and our community partners for bringing resources to Mission.
Here is the slide presentation provided during the Title I meeting. Please review and please provide your input by answering these questions.
Are you interested in being part of our School Site Council? We have one vacancy this year. Please complete this survey.
We have our first English Learners Advisory Committee (ELAC) Meeting this Wednesday, September 18 at 6:00pm in room 17. All parents of English Language Learners are invited to attend.
At our school, we are committed to fostering not just academic success but also strong character development. We practice the 8 Keys of Excellence, a set of guiding principles that empower our students to become responsible, confident, and compassionate individuals. These keys—Integrity, Failure Leads to Success, Speak with Good Purpose, This Is It, Commitment, Ownership, Flexibility, and Balance—are integrated into our daily routines and interactions. By embracing these values, our students learn important life skills that go beyond the classroom, helping them thrive in both school and life. We are excited to partner with families to support and model these principles throughout the year.
This month, our focus is on the key "Failure Leads to Success." Through this key, we teach students that mistakes are valuable learning opportunities, encouraging them to persevere and grow from challenges. By fostering a growth mindset, we help students understand that setbacks are not the end but rather stepping stones toward improvement and eventual success. Please help us by reinforcing this message at home, encouraging your child to view challenges as opportunities to learn and grow. Together, we can create an environment where students feel supported in taking risks, learning from their mistakes, and developing resilience on their path to success.
Join us on Monday, September 23 at 8:15 for our Monday Morning Assembly. We will introduce the 8 keys to our community.

Please remember that student devices are loaned to students and we ask that you encourage students to take great care of their device. Adding stickers or vandalizing devices in any way can lead to unnecessary repair or replacement costs for parents. It also saves a lot of time when students bring their device to class fully charged. We appreciate your cooperation and support in taking care of the devices.
Responsible Use of Technology
We want to emphasize the importance of monitoring and limiting your child's screen time and social media usage. While technology and social media can offer valuable educational and social opportunities, they also have the potential to become a significant distraction and, if not managed carefully, can have negative effects on your child's development. Below are 2 tips to support responsible use of technology.
TIP Number 1
Set Time Limits: Establish daily or weekly screen time limits based on your child's age and needs. Ensure they have enough time for other activities like homework, physical exercise, and social interactions.
TIP Number 2
Monitor Content: Regularly check the content your child is interacting with, whether it's through apps, games, or social media platforms. Ensure it's age-appropriate and safe.
