BARD - Braille and Audio Reading Download
Daureen Clyde has been an educator in the public school system for over 24 years. Also, as a Learning Coordinator for a major medical alarm company, she developed an Emergency Operator Training Program and helped launch Amazon Fulfillment warehouses in Fall River, MA and Jacksonville, FL . Her interest in the National Library Service, BARD program came as the result of helping her partner, Bill, maintain his independence and love of reading after losing his eyesight.
If you have library patrons who are print disabled and members of the OLIS Talking Books Library program, join us for a demonstration and training on how to download from BARD to multiple devices (laptop, iphone, android phone, Kindle Fire, iPad). If you would like to try downloading to your own personal device, be sure to bring it with you. TBL staff will be available to assist you at the session as well.

I’m Not a Lawyer or Doctor: Providing Patrons the Information They Need While Keeping Your Professional Integrity and Sanity
We all receive questions about medical and legal matters that go beyond our expertise and comfort level. However, we still want to help or point our patrons to the places where they can get the answers they need. And, that is where we often falter. This program aims to introduce law, special, academic, and public librarians to a variety of medical and legal research concepts and technologies available to best assist our patrons. By the end of this program, you will feel more confident in helping patrons to find the resources they need in order to successfully care for and represent themselves, find low/no cost legal aid, get 2nd opinions and more information about personal health issues, while not putting yourself in legal or ethical dilemmas.

Opening Up the Rhode Island Historical Society Film Archives
Becca Bender recently assumed the newly created position of Film Archivist & Curator of Recorded Media at the Rhode Island Historical Society. RIHS has one of the largest regional film collections in the country, and Becca will give a glimpse into its vast holdings, as well as discuss her plans for increasing access to the materials and expanding the Rhode Island communities represented among RIHS’ audiovisual collections.
Additionally, Becca will speak on the topic of providing special collections materials to filmmakers, and finding a balance when working with these often demanding researchers. Prior to joining RIHS, Becca worked for many years as a documentary archival producer, so she understands both worlds!
If you attend this program you will: become more familiar with an epic film resource right here in Rhode Island, learn how to better serve documentary film makers who want to use your collection, and still have time to network with your colleagues!
