Parent Advisory Council
We are looking for parents to be part of our parent advisory council. This advisory committee will meet once a month beginning after the holiday break if we can form a committee. The council will be comprised of the principal, elected parents, teachers, student representatives, and community members. The role of the parent advisory council is to assist the principal in the identification of educational needs of students, review the budget, and the formulation of a school improvement plan. The make up of the council encourages diverse perspectives in the formulation of a consensus plan. Please email gnieves@webster-schools.org if you are interested in being elected as a representative of the parent advisory council. Also, if you know of any community members who may be interested in joining the council, please pass along the above contact information. Student Solves
On December 12, students from both Bartlett and the Webster Middle School participated in the inaugural Applied Learning/One8 Student Solves event, joining 1,887 peers and 96 educators from 55 schools across Massachusetts. Representing WMS were 11 Engineering and 10 Medical students, alongside 9 Innovation Career Pathway (ICP) Advanced Manufacturing and 13 ICP Healthcare & Social Assistance students from BHS.
Guided by Philips mentors, the students worked in collaborative teams to address a real-world challenge involving the Philips Lumify portable ultrasound system. Teams developed innovative ideas to enhance usability and attract new users for the cutting-edge medical device.
Both students and mentors praised the event as “fun” and “amazing,” with many eager to participate again. This experience underscores the dedication of BHS and WMS to empowering students with hands-on learning opportunities that foster innovation, teamwork, and real-world problem-solving skills.

Student Support Services
Big Brother Big Sister Program
Our school is excited about this partnership, as it offers a unique opportunity for mentorship and personal growth. As Katie Roy, the VP of Programs at Big Brothers Big Sisters said, "So many engaged, interested, motivated kiddos coming from Bartlett is a true testament to the values the school is clearly teaching and the standard the students are being held to." We can't wait to see the connections formed and the positive influence these high schoolers will have on our younger students!
Quarter 1 Academic Points/Credit Recovery Due to Attendance
If you received a grade reduction in any class due to attendance NOW is the time to schedule your makeup time with Mr. Carney! Remember, this time must be completed before the end of Quarter 2 which is on January 19, 2025..
The administrative detention sessions will be held every Wednesday from 2pm-3:30pm starting November 13th through the end of Quarter 2. These sessions are for point and/or credit recovery. Each session applies to one class for one day missed. It is expected that you will serve for the entire time or it will not count, and be prepared to have work to complete during this time. Mr. Carney will be responsible for running these sessions.
FAQ: If I serve one administrative detention session will I get back all the points for all the classes?
Answer: Depends on the situation. If you only have one class deducted and you only have 5 unexcused absences from that class, then yes. Most times, this is not the case and you will need to serve multiple sessions to gain the points back for all the classes.
Example: You have 6 unexcused absences from math and 5 unexcused absences from ELA. You will need to attend 3 sessions to recover the lost points for both classes (2 for math to bring you below 5, and 1 for ELA to bring you below 5).
Another example: You have 11 unexcused absences from Science. You will need to attend 2 sessions to bring you below 10 at which point the 10 point deduction will be enforced.
Grading Policy
Reminder of the Handbook Policy
Loss of Points/Credit due to absences -
5-9 unexcused absences from a class will lose 10 points from their grade in that class for that quarter.
Grade/Credit Recovery Process:
Process 1 - Students can recover those lost points in the following quarter, if and only if, they have no more than 2 unexcused absences from that class during that quarter.
Process 2 (if last quarter of the course) - Students can work to recover lost points as soon as they reach their 5th unexcused absence by attending a 1.5 hour administrative detention session (one missed class per session). Students may attend multiple sessions to recover for multiple courses if needed. Students opting for these administrative detention sessions (ADPs) must designate which course they are attending for.
10 or more unexcused absences from a class will result in an automatic attendance failure for the quarter and receive a grade of a 40 (District Minimum Grade).
Grade/Credit Recovery Process:
Students may earn credit back by attending a 1.5 hour administrative detention session (one missed class per session). Students may attend multiple sessions to recover for multiple courses if needed. Students opting for these administrative detention sessions (ADPs) must designate which course they are attending for. They must attend enough ADP sessions to bring absences below 10 at which point the 10 point deduction will be enforced as noted above.
