Strength. Determination. Knowledge.
Happy Friday!
Dear Families,
This year has hit us with one challenging decision after another. Through it all, you have been so supportive and understanding-- thank you! We are so blessed every day by our school community.
As a reminder, next week is Thanksgiving Break. There will be no school. Enjoy this time to relax and refresh. Please be safe over the holiday!
On November 30th, we will transition to fully virtual instruction. Students will access their classes in the same way they have all year long when logging in from home. Your child's teacher will be in touch regarding their fully virtual learning schedule. We are working to condense the amount of time your child will be actively online as we know this transition is demanding for families and students need "their person" to be successful!
Conferences are on December 2nd! For safety purposes, we will be hosting conferences over Zoom. Please schedule a conference time directly with your child's teacher. Teachers will be available to meet until 8:00 p.m. on the 2nd!
Have a wonderful week off, and we'll "see" you again on the 30th!

November Character Trait- Student of the Month
Our November character trait is Leadership! Congratulations to all of our Students of the Month for November! Thank you for being a role model to your peers and remembering to SOAR!
Ms. Merlo: Di'Antio Turner is always willing to help and volunteer to do things, even if he doesn't want to do them. His greatest example is teaching another scholar how to tie their shoes. He is an amazing leader in the classroom!
Ms. Prawdzik: My student of the month is Almier Owens. Almier is a leader and role model in class. He sets a great example for others to follow by completing his work, having a positive attitude, and correcting his own behavior when necessary.
Mrs. Cook: The Student of the Month in Mrs. Cook's second grade classroom is Darnell Townsel. Darnell has proven he is a leader this school year. He is often the first student to log in each morning to Blackboard and continually offers to share his thinking when Mrs.Cook asks for student responses. His work is turned in on time, and he freely gives compliments to other students and his teachers.
Mr. Teer: Malachi Posey is my Student of the Month for November. This is Malachi's first year at GHA, and he has proved to me since day one that he has what it takes to be a leader. Not only is Malachi a strong student academically, Malachi shows strong leadership skills in the classroom such as: respecting adults, supporting his peers, completing assignments on time, and submitting quality work. However, I believe Malachi's strongest asset is his sense of humor; Malachi never fails to make me smile throughout the day! Mr. Musolf and I are very lucky to have Malachi in our classroom!
Ms. Paynter: My'Tiera Allen is my Student of the Month. She has done an amazing job getting her assignments done online and is very rarely absent. She participates in class discussions and asks questions when she needs help. My'Tiera also offers help if she sees that something is going wrong. She is definitely a leader!
Mr. Chapman: Kameron Castillo is my Student of the Month. Kameron has displayed leadership qualities during this school year, in both online and face-to-face settings. His cool, calm demeanor provides an atmosphere in the classroom that other staff and students admire. I am so proud of Kameron and the way he strives to get better each and every day.
Ms. Crane: Andrew Owens is my Student of the Month for November. Andrew shows leadership qualities by showing up to class on time, doing his assignments, and being a friend to everyone. While on vacation, Andrew still showed up to class every day! Way to go, Andrew!
Ms. Thomas: My Student of the Month is Christine Henderson. She is a definite leader in the classroom. She is always willing to help any student or staff. She has a great talent for entertaining students and leading discussions.
Congratulations and THANK YOU to all of our Students of the Month for being exceptional role models!

A Note About Report Cards
Additionally, and unique to this marking period, if a student had multiple absences that affected whether or not they were able to be evaluated on a skill set that was graded, they were given an "INS," as opposed to "INT." "INS" stands for "insufficient data" and means that we were not able to accurately assess a student's performance on a skill set at this time. "INT" stands for "needs intervention" and means that this is an area the student needs additional support in, and it will be a focus area of the educational team to help ensure growth is made.
If you have any questions at all about report cards, please contact your child's teacher. We are happy to help!
Laptop Care and Tips
All of our scholars have received devices for virtual learning. Below are a few tips to ensure the technology devices are not accidentally damaged or lost.
- Ensure the case remains on the iPad or Chromebook.
- Ensure food and drinks are not around the technology devices.
- Ensure scholars are stationary when using the iPad or Chromebook.
- Monitor data usage. (Make sure hotspots are turned off and disconnected when not being used for school work.)
- When lessons have concluded for the day, ensure the scholar places the device in the same location each day.
- Ensure the technology devices are plugged into the charger at the end of the day in order for the scholars to have a fully charged device for the next school day.
