January 2025
Happy New Year!
I hope your 2025 is off to a great start! We've completed the first semester of school and report cards will be sent home with students this Friday, January 23rd! In those same envelopes are CCP applications for 8th-grade students who have yet to return their forms. Please return those to school by Monday, January 26th.
If you haven't already done so, please complete the Lorain County Fair Participation Survey using this link: https://forms.gle/xzGZjxVbzW8dYf399. Your feedback will help the District Calendar Committee with future planning and will only take a few minutes to complete. Thank you for your help!
Please be sure to check "Dates to Remember" near the end of the newsletter and always check the Langston's web page (https://www.oberlinschools.net/our-schools/langston-middle-school) for the most up-to-date info!
Teaching and Learning
We kicked off the new year with a school-wide read-a-thon! Sustained, quiet, uninterrupted, independent reading time provides incredible benefits for our middle school students, supporting both academic growth and personal development! As students spent most of the day reading, it helped build concentration and focus, enhanced comprehension skills, encouraged a love for reading, expanded vocabulary and language skills, reduced stress and promoted relaxation, developed independence and self-discipline, and so much more! During their midday break, students enjoyed extra recess time in the gym, extended time in the cafeteria for downtime with friends, and pen-beading, watercolor painting, and bookmark making in the library.
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS)
CONGRATULATIONS to Max Bradish, Arkangel Ramos, and Alessandra Sanz-Fekete for being our December "Communicator" Students of the Month! Communicators understand and express ideas and information confidently and creatively in more than one language and in a variety of modes of communication. They work effectively and willingly in collaboration with others. Congrats again to Max, Ark, and Alessandra! Our staff are on the lookout for "Balanced" students for January!
Family Engagement
Our second annual combined music concert was well attended by families and friends, filling seats on the gym floor and in the bleachers! Our performers were amazing, thanks in large part to their hardworking teachers, Mrs. Fox, Mr. Jaeckin, and Ms. Cromwell! Thank you for supporting our students!
There are several ways for families to get involved with student learning and activities in the upcoming month! Be sure to look at the "Dates to Remember" section for information about conferences, parent information nights, and more! The district webpage is a great way to look for upcoming sporting events and extra curricular activities.
