Principals Message
It was a great week with lots of learning and fun in our Eagle Nation.
We have Winter Conferences in two weeks, and Progress mid-Trimester 2 Progress reports will be sent home the week of February 3rd, so check your grades on StudentVue. If you do not have the grade you want, check in with your teacher and get any makeup work turned in ASAP. We want your grades to reflect what you learned because we care about you and your learning.
Thank you to ASB, Staff, and our students for supporting a great Winter Formal Event. We had almost 200 students attend last Saturday night's Winter Formal. It was impressive to see so many of our students with exemplary behavior supporting our CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27 - GOAL #2: Supporting Every Student’s Wellbeing & Inclusion. Thank you for making it a great evening where everyone was included and had fun.
On Monday and Tuesday, we had 40+ Student, Staff, Parent/Family/Community Partner Representatives from across our district who collaborated together to continue the development of our CSD Profile of a Graduate vision. The Profile of a Graduate was developed as part of the Strategic Planning process for Roadmap ‘27 and is a guiding vision for our PreK-12 educational system that identifies the essential knowledge, skills, disposition, and interpersonal competencies a Centennial School District student will develop for their educational journey for readiness and success in their future endeavors. Thank you to all our CHS Students, Staff, and Parents/Families who gave their voice to this process and supported CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27 - Centennial Profile of a Profile of a Graduate.
We also wanted to recognize our Student Council for organizing a fun January Spirit Assembly. The different games and activities were outstanding. Thank you, Eagles, for being a great audience and showing your school spirit during the assembly.
Students also got to participate in several extended learning opportunities. On Tuesday, over forty CHS seniors went to Oregon State University to learn more about the University. We also had several students attend Thursday's Field Trip to the Portland Black College Expo at SEI. During both Field trips students got to learn about the many opportunities that are open to them in their life after high school and CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27 GOAL #5: Preparing Every Student for Their Future.
- Our CHS Big Eagles are making a difference in our CSD Community. On Friday, this was a giant tag game with 1st graders Little Eagles at Powell Butte Elementary. Thank you, Big Eagles mentors Joelard, Peter, Levi, Santos, and Jose, for supporting CSD Strategic Plan - Roadmap '27 - GOAL #2: Supporting Every Student’s Wellbeing & Inclusion.
Our Centennial Winter Sports teams are having a great season competing and exceeding. Check out some of the great pictures from Wrestling, Basketball, and Swim. It is a busy weekend with the Forest Grove Women's Westling Tournament/Oregon Classic and, next weekend, the Centennial Dual Tournament. If you have not watched a game, come cheer on our Eagles. Go Eagles!
Remember to sign up for a Winter Conference. Sign-up for CHS Winter Conferences is open now. CHS Winter conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, January 29th, 2025, from 3:30-7:30 PM and Thursday, January 30th, 2025, from 7:30 AM-7:30 PM. School Board Recognition Month - Thank You, CSD School Board!
It's School Board Recognition Month! Each January, Oregon’s 197 K-12 school districts come together to celebrate and honor our school board members for their service to students, families, and the community. These elected volunteers give their personal time and energy to the important task of overseeing school budgets, policies, and other critical management tasks.
We are so grateful for the efforts of our Centennial School District Board of Directors: Chair Rose Solowski, Vice Chair Pam Shields, David Linn, Ronald "Jess" Hardin, Claudia Andrews, Melissa Standley, and Will Mohring. Please join us this month in thanking these amazing individuals for their dedication to our Centennial schools!

CHS Attendance Corner
Winter Illness Reminders from CHS Attendance Team
This is the time of year when illnesses such as colds, flu, and fevers can take a toll on school attendance. Absences related to illness, even if they are excused, break the routine of daily attendance and contribute to students feeling connected and engaged in learning. Please consider the following reminders to keep your children healthy and in school this winter:
Remind children to wash their hands before and after eating, after using the restroom, or after coughing or sneezing.
Encourage healthy habits such as getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, drinking fluids, and getting exercise.
Refer to the Symptom-Based Exclusion Chart for guidance on when to keep your child home from school due to illness or call our school office for assistance.
If your child needs medical attention, no-cost health services are available at the Multnomah County Student Health Centers for all youth ages 5-18. To make an appointment at the Centennial High School Student Health Center, please call 503-988-5488. For more information about Student Health Center services or locations, click here.
Let us know how we can help you. If you’re having trouble or need additional resources, please call our school office.

Reminders:
Inclement Weather - Be Ready! Reminder
With the colder winter months just around the corner, we want to remind families and staff of the procedures used by our District when inclement weather occurs.
The Centennial School District maintains a preparedness plan for the monitoring of inclement weather and potential weather-related impacts on school operations, including our facilities and road safety for transportation. As these impacts are evaluated, there may be changes to the school schedule, such as a school closure, a delayed start to the school day, or an early dismissal. Snow routes for our school buses will also be used when road conditions are deemed unsafe by our Transportation Department staff.
When inclement weather causes changes such as these, we will notify our staff and families using multiple methods:
- ParentSquare messaging (text, email, app notifications, and/or voicemail). If you need assistance registering for the ParentSquare app, please contact your school office.
- Centennial School District website: www.csd28j.org
- Social Media (Facebook: CentennialSD28j / Instagram: centennial_schools)
- Flash Alert notifies local news stations. Individuals can subscribe to receive FlashAlert updates for Centennial School District here: http://www.flashalert.net/id/centennialsd
Parents/caregivers, if your email address or phone number has changed in the last year, please contact your school office to ensure we have your up-to-date contact information.
