From Heritage to Home...Let's Stay Connected!
September 15, 2024
Dear Heritage Parents and Guardians,
Happy Sunday! As we progress through the school year, we want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of regular school attendance for our students.
Why Attendance Matters
- Academic Success: Consistent attendance is directly linked to academic achievement. Students who attend school regularly are more likely to perform better in their classes, understand the material being taught, and achieve higher grades.
- Social Development: School is not just about academics; it’s also a vital environment for social interaction. Regular attendance helps students build relationships with their peers and teachers, fostering a sense of belonging and community.
- Life Skills: Attending school regularly teaches students the importance of commitment and responsibility. These skills are essential not only in education but also in their future careers and personal lives.
- Support Systems: Our school provides various support systems, from counseling services to extracurricular activities. Regular attendance ensures that students can access these resources, which can be crucial for their overall well-being.
- Positive Habits: Establishing a routine of attending school helps instill positive habits that can last a lifetime. It prepares students for the expectations they will face in higher education and the workforce.
We encourage all parents and guardians to support your children in making school attendance a priority. Here are a few ways you can help:
- Set a Routine: Establish a consistent morning routine to help your child prepare for school each day.
- Communicate: Talk to your child about the importance of being present in class and how it contributes to their success.
- Stay Informed: Keep track of attendance records and communicate with teachers if your child is facing challenges in attending school.
Thank you for your continued support in ensuring that our students thrive academically and socially. Together, we can make a significant difference in their educational journey.
Best,
Dr. Allegri

- I wanted to share some exciting information about our school's commitment to creating a positive learning environment through the implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). PBIS is an evidence-based framework that has shown remarkable success in schools across the country, and we're thrilled to be using it here at HMS. PBIS is so valuable for our school community because it focuses on recognizing and reinforcing good behavior rather than simply punishing misconduct. This approach helps create a more positive, supportive atmosphere where students feel valued and motivated. It also improves academic performance by reducing disruptive behaviors and increasing engagement. We use Live School points at HMS to recognize students doing the right thing and then students have the opportunity to spend these points on different activities throughout the year. Below, you'll see the layout of different activities that students can cash in their points for. We will be working with students to encourage them to earn as many points as they can, budget the spending of these points, and enjoy fun activities for showing up and doing the right thing at school. We can't wait to have some fun with our students this year.
- Middle Level buildings will distribute MAP and EOC Grade Level scores for current students in grades 6, 7, and 8 and will be sent home via students with a state testing parent letter on September 20th.
- Intramurals are back! Please see the slide below and use this link to sign your child up to attend. Students must sign up to stay.
- As we work together to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, I want to take a moment to address an important issue regarding our car rider line. We’ve noticed that some drivers are not slowing down or paying adequate attention to our crossing guard during drop-off and pick-up times. Mr. Wright is here to help guide our students safely to and from school. He plays a crucial role in ensuring that children can cross the street safely and that traffic flows smoothly. Please watch for and follow his signals. Thank you for your attention to this important matter. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me.
- Culvers Restaraunt Night is this Thursday. See the flyer below, and stop by this week to eat at Culvers and a portion of the proceeds will come right back to Heritage.
- Best Life Therapy KC and Kindness Connects Us are proud to present a free Zoom Parenting Resource session for parents in the greater Kansas City area. We are focusing on mental health resources for parents of color and low income families but of course ANYONE is welcome to attend.
