Winter Sport Season is Upon Us
This is a great season full of many opportunities for us to come together as a community for several exciting games/matches each week. It is also a time for our annual reminders about the behavior that we expect from our students and spectators.
Student Athletes: Support your teammates, listen to your coach, work your hardest, and enjoy this time in your life. We offer team sports for building strong character and relationships as you learn valuable life lessons.
Student Spectators: Cheer on our team in a positive manner. Uplifting the L-Cats by degrading the other team never works. No comments to the referees are allowed. Enjoy the excitement of cheering on a team with your fellow L-Cats and sharing in the teams’ success!
Adult Spectators: Cheer on the L-Cats! Be a great role model for our students by cheering for the positive performance of our athletes and letting the coaches and referees do the jobs they are trained to do. No comments to referees are allowed. Enjoy the excitement of High School athletics!
The Capitol Conference attempts to set similar standards of conduct, but we all know that there is a different atmosphere at each school. At times, visiting teams do cheers or act in a way that we would not allow our students to behave. LMHS students are great at listening to the adult supervisors and responding to “we have more class than that”.
We look forward to another fun-filled season with cooperative students and adults.
Go L-Cats! Happy Holiday Season To All!

Shout Out to Mrs. Beth Denzin - Rotary Teacher for the Month of November
Mrs. Beth Denzin, Lake Mills High School Math Teacher, has been named Rotary Teacher for the month of November. She has been a teacher for the school district for the past 17 years and 22 years overall.
Here are a few things students have said about her:
· I have Mrs. Denzin for both calculus and advisory. I come into her room for my full block and half-block study hall. She is always working hard on numerous tasks at once. Despite how busy she is, when students come in to talk about personal issues or need her advice, she stops what she’s doing to help them. She is an outstanding calculus teacher who has a talent for keeping everyone engaged while teaching the lesson.
· Beyond her teaching and people skills, Mrs. Denzin has also been incredibly supportive in my college application process. Whether writing a letter of recommendation or helping me choose which activities to highlight, she has been an invaluable resource.
· She is very supportive and won't let any student she works with down. She is very caring for her kids.
· In stretch math, she helped me with math and made math fun to learn and do.
Superintendent Tonya Olson commented that when doing the portfolio interviews with the seniors, she asks which teacher has had the most impact on their high school career. More often than not, the seniors will name Mrs. Denzin as that person due to the extra time at lunch, advisory, and after school that she spends with students helping them.
Mrs. Denzin will be recognized at a Rotary meeting in December and will be presented with $200, an oil change, and various gift certificates as a token of appreciation.
The Lake Mills Rotary Club looks forward to celebrating the dedicated educators who shape the future of our community.

Meet LMHS' Foreign Exchange Students
Every year, Lake Mills High School has the opportunity to host exchange students from all over the world. These exchange students will either stay for the entire school year or for a quarter of the school year. When entering the new environment of Lake Mills High School, these students are faced with welcoming smiles and many curious peers. Over the years, the exchange students have left their mark on the school, and have made many lifelong friends. This year, LMHS has the honor of hosting Cezar Platon and Oriana Fois.
Cezar, who is from Moldova, is staying with the Brett and Nichole Hottman Family. He enjoys playing basketball and the movie Barbie. When asked what he misses most about home, he replied that he misses his friends and family. He is excited for everything, specifically he is excited to meet new people, try new food, see new things, and celebrate new holidays.
Oriana, who is from an island called Sardinia in Italy, is staying with the Amy Phillips and Benjamin Klepzig Family. She enjoys the movie Little Miss Sunshine. When asked what she misses the most about home, she replied that she misses the food and the night life, because it's really not a thing here. She is most excited for the football games and the holidays.
The students and staff of Lake Mills High School are ecstatic that we have the pleasure of hosting Cezar and Oriana this year and can’t wait to show them how we celebrate holidays here in the United States!

Tardies Reminder
Just a reminder that students are to be in their classroom at 7:50 AM...not arriving to school at 7:50 AM.
A tardy is noted if the student is not in the classroom when the bell rings. When a teacher reports six tardies to the office, a 30 minute detention is assigned.

Importance of Sleep
In our recent school climate survey, 31% of LMHS students reported that they don't get enough sleep (8-10 hours per night).
Sleep is crucial for students as it influences their brain development, academic performance, and overall well-being. Beyond providing a foundation for memory consolidation and critical thinking, sleep enhances focus and attentiveness in the classroom.
- Emotionally, sleep plays an important role in regulating mood and reducing stress.
- Physically, it supports immune function and contributes to cardiovascular health, while also aiding in hormonal regulation crucial for growth and development during the teenage years.
- Sleep also fosters positive social interactions, behavioral regulation, and safety awareness.
With all these benefits in mind, LMHS students should prioritize consistent and sufficient sleep!
Dress in Layers
Our students seem to be having a difficult time transitioning to our new temperatures.
Please remind your student that some parts of the building are warmer than others and our temperatures can fluctuate throughout the day.
Having extra clothes in their lockers is a great idea.
