Gifted Project Travels Across Buildings,
Spans Grade Levels,
and Provides Students with A Road Map to Success
At our annual back-to-school day for faculty and staff, Mr. Stoudt and the Office of Teaching & Learning kicked off the 2024-2025 school year with "Life is A Highway" as our educational team's theme. As in years past, the annual first-day theme will carry over to communications and professional learning activities throughout the year.
In what has become an annual tradition, our Gifted teaching team created a back-to-school project for their students based on the faculty theme. Their "Life is a Highway" project asked our Gifted students across WES, MSE, and MSW to choose or create cars to represent them on their journey to meeting their personal goals for Gifted. Student reflection raised awareness of the obstacles that may possibly slow them down and the detours they may need to take on their road to achievement. We are proud to report that they are up for the challenge of persevering and finding their way!

Celebrating Nuclear Science Week at BASH
Submitted by Mrs. Hoffman, BASH Science Teacher
On October 21st, Constellation Nuclear Fuels Engineers Grace Stanke and Jeremy Barnhart visited Mrs. Hoffman and Mr. Knight’s Environmental Science classes to deliver a presentation on Nuclear Energy for Nuclear Science Week.
The students gained insights into the remarkable technology of harnessing atomic power, which provides 20% of the United States' clean energy. Furthermore, they explored the deeper meanings of Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity and its everyday applications in nuclear science. The presentation included interactive experiments and hands-on activities, including the famous "Elephant’s Toothpaste" experiment.
Students participated in a lively race to don contamination prevention scrubs, used during specialized maintenance tasks at a Nuclear Power Plant. Additionally, students learned about a variety of job opportunities available to them with varying levels of education required.

EES Students Demonstrate the Strength
in (Small) Numbers!
Submitted by Mrs. Franco, EES Principal
Earl Elementary School demonstrated the universal theme, “small groups can accomplish great things,” this week with their annual food drive. The students donated over 1200 food items in only four days!
The activity was tied to Unity Day on October 16th. Unity Day is a national school event that celebrates the acceptance of all people.
The food drive also connects to our trimester themes Be Kind, Be Helpful, & Be Respectful. The food items will be donated to Preston’s Pantry at the Boyertown Multiservice and used to help people in our local community. When we work together, we are #EarlStong!

7th Grade Science Fun at MSE
Submitted by Mrs. Sweeney, MSE Science Teacher
MSE 7th grade science students were recently treated to an engaging presentation from Dr. Steve Sweeney. Dr. Sweeney is a physics professor at DeSales University and the chair of the Department of Chemistry and Physics.
In the presentation, Dr. Sweeney used liquid nitrogen to reinforce the concept of particle motion in states of matter while demonstrating and introducing the concept of physical changes to our students. He also used chemical reactions to illustrate the signs of chemical changes.

7th Grade Students at MSW Participate
in Science Experiment
Submitted by Mrs. Towers, MSW Science Teacher
“How do people use chemical reactions to solve problems?”
MSW 7th grade science students started their unit on chemical reactions and began investigating this question. They were introduced to a scenario in which chemicals are used to make a useful product, but also produce unwanted wastes. Students were given a brief introduction to the function of a circuit board in a computer and other electronic devices. Students then designed their own circuit boards!
After agreeing on a design with their group, students used a permanent marker to copy their design to a copper coated plastic piece. We then etched it with an acidic copper-etching solution. While the etching solution was working its magic, students read about the etching process and considered the copper-containing waste it produces.
The next day, students tested out their circuit boards to see which design worked best by getting the light bulb to light up! We then discussed the students’ ideas about solutions to the waste produced.

Eight BASH Singers Qualify for PMEA District 10 Chorus
Submitted by Mr. Brunner, BASH Choir Director
On Monday, October 21, 20 BASH students traveled to Parkland High School to audition for PA Music Educators Association (PMEA) District 10 Chorus. District 10 encompasses the area from Twin Valley to Boyertown, the Lehigh Valley schools, Tamaqua, Blue Mountain, Bangor, the Poconos, and Delaware Valley (up by Port Jervis). There were over 60 schools in attendance with over 700 singers auditioning.
Each student prepared the song, There Will Be Rest by Frank Tichelli. They sang the piece for a panel of three judges and were scored based on how well they performed. Additionally, each singer was scored on a sight-reading song (that they never saw before) by a panel of 2 judges. Our students did very well. All of them made it through the preliminary round and proceeded into the final rooms.
Eight of our students made the 2025 PMEA District 10 Chorus taking place at Twin Valley High School on Thursday and Friday, February 6-7. Below are the results. I am extremely proud of all our students and their successes. A huge thank you to Mr. Dareneau for traveling to Parkland with the kids Monday night while I was judging and to Mrs. Leibensperger for volunteering to judge. It takes a village!
