SCHOOL NEWS
ANNOUNCEMENT OF SPRING OPTIONAL TESTING FOR IDENTIFICATION OF GIFTED STUDENTS
Although your child may or may not have taken the CogAT in December, you may request that your child be tested on the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT). If you wish to have your child participate in this round of testing, all requests must be made through the below online link by March 15, 2019. In order to decrease disruption to your child's instruction, this testing opportunity will take place prior to the start of the school day. We have scheduled this 45-50 minute testing session to be administered from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at Montgomery Elementary.
Please note it is the parents' responsibility to provide transportation the morning of testing to your child’s building. Additionally, know that Sycamore cannot use kindergarten or first grade scores for gifted placement.

CLASS PLACEMENT PROCESS BEGINS
As we plan for next year, we will begin our process of class placements for all of our current students. Our teams of teachers and administrators spend a considerable amount of time looking closely at academic abilities, special learning considerations, social interactions, among many other things in order to make up the best learning environments for all students. Parent input is also considered as our teams of teachers and administrators develop the class lists between now and the start of the next school year.
If you would like your child to be placed with a specific peer or give us any other pertinent information to consider, please complete the form attached to this newsletter. Every effort will be made to place your child with one of the students listed. Please list six names to ensure a classroom placement with a peer. If fewer than six names are provided, the likelihood of your child being placed with a peer listed is decreased.
For your input to be considered it is imperative that this form is completed and submitted
NO LATER than March 15, 2019.
This form is OPTIONAL!

PTO PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Congratulations again to Dr. Amy Debelak for being named the next principal of Montgomery Elementary!
Muffin Fun With Your #1 is next Tuesday, March 12th (Last names A-K) or Wednesday, March 13th (Last names L-Z)! Moms, grandmas, or other significant adult is invited to join your student(s) from 8:30-9:10am for Muffins!
The Montgomery Green Team is still hard at work collecting unwanted textiles for the annual Shed Your Threads Challenge. You can send your unwanted items to school. Bins are located under the stairwell in the school and a large collection bin in the parking lot. Bring them in ASAP as this challenge is over at the end of March!
Their trash free Tuesday program is also continuing during the month of March! The school is providing utensil free lunches and compostable trays. Packers are encouraged to bring “trash free” lunches as well! The Green Team is doing an amazing job explaining to our students how they can help the environment in small ways everyday!
It’s time for Spring Special Requests! If you are a PTO member and have a great idea that would benefit Montgomery Elementary please contact myself or Christa Lloyd for more information on how to apply!
Our next General PTO Meeting is Thursday, May 16th at 9:30am! Join us for the volunteer brunch as a special thank you for all you do to help and support the PTO!
Please follow our private Facebook group, “Montgomery Elementary PTO” to learn about upcoming events and see photos of your children having fun experiences at school.
The PTO would not be able to do what we do without our amazing volunteers, parents, teachers, and staff. If you would please take a moment to fill out the Montgomery Elementary PTO Questionnaire we would greatly appreciate your feedback.
We have several chair positions open, that must be filled, for next school year so the PTO can continue to run the amazing programs and activities at Montgomery Elementary! If you have a chair position in mind or are interested in additional information please contact Kristy Felss, at mtpto@sycamoreschools.org.
