The Buzz
Spring Term - 28th March2024
Message from the Governors
Spring term is always busy and this year has been no exception. Despite being the shortest of the three terms, there is no less activity packed in to it and no doubt children and staff are now looking forward to a well deserved break!
For governors a key activity for this term has been to approve the school's budget for the new financial year (which runs from April to March). We are extremely grateful to our School Business Manager, Mrs Drake, for all her hard work in setting and then managing the budget throughout the year.
In recent years, schools across the country have faced growing financial pressures and managing expenditure against income has become an increasingly complex balancing act. At HPP we are grateful to have a relatively good financial position, setting a budget that allows us not just to operate the school but also to continue investing in school buildings and resources. In the current climate, this is a position that we do not take for granted.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank parents and carers for the many and varied ways you contribute to the school. The combined impact of this support (whether it be termly donations, providing resources for your children to use in the classroom, making prompt payments for school trips and activities, declaring eligibility for pupil premium funding, volunteering your time or supporting our wonderful parent association) is significant and allows the leadership team to plan and ensure all of our children continue to enjoy the wide range of activities offered by the school.
Wishing you all a relaxing spring break,
Mary Buxton and Jane Fallon

HISNA News
We are thrilled to announce that from September 2024 HISNA and FoHJS PTA'S will become one association across both schools. Creating a new charity will further build our school community, raise lots of funds, make the experience of parents and carers easier in engaging with our organisations and critically provide lots of fun and enriching experiences for children across the partnership
This partnership is a wonderful opportunity for both groups to pool their resources and expertise.
We need a name for the new organisation and want our brilliant parents, carers and children to help! Please complete the google form with your ideas. We are keen to represent those themes that are important to our organisations and the school values - think Bees, partnership, community and more!
More information will follow on our plans for September. As always if you are interested in joining please emails friendsofhamptonjuniorschool@gmail.com and contacthisna@gmail.com

Easter Holiday Active Travel Poster Competition
We would like everyone to get creative over the Easter break, and design posters promoting active travel. Our School Street, breathing cleaner air, the health benefits of walking/scooting/cycling - the focus of your poster is up to you. They should be completed on A4 paper and need to be as eye catching as possible.
The competition is open to all children in the school, and posters can be produced with the support of the whole family at home. We hope this will spark discussion about the importance of keeping our bodies healthy and happy with exercise, as well as helping to keep the air in our local area as clean as possible.
Please put your child's name and class on the poster and send it into the class teacher by Wednesday 17th April.
Prizes will be awarded on Friday 19th April 2024.

Last week, we celebrated our Neurodiversity Celebration Week which focused on how everyone’s brain is different.
Throughout the week children participated in class activities and assemblies to recognise how we are all individual. As part of these activities, each child decorated a ‘jigsaw piece’ and then, as a class, they fitted the pieces of the brain together to form a ‘Neurodiversity display’. All our brains are different. Here are some pictures of our class ‘brains’.

Music Spotlight
The new National Plan for Music Education (NPME): “The Power of Music to Change Lives” (June 2022) states its vision is to “enable all children and young people to learn to sing, play an instrument and create music together, and have the opportunity to progress their musical interests and talents, including professionally”. At Hampton Infant School and Nursery, we have set about ensuring this vision is at the forefront of our curriculum development.
Opportunities to sing are plentiful in HISN. In EYFS, we sing as part of our transition routines and throughout learning in maths and topic lessons. We use Singup to select age appropriate topic songs to aid our understanding of key topic vocabulary and we use counting songs and nursery rhymes to support our learning in maths and to extend our vocabulary. In years 1 and 2 we learn to sing entire songs and learn to match the pitch of someone singing.
There are weekly singing assemblies where children are taught new songs selected on the basis of whole school topics such as seasons or friendship and are often linked to our principles. Singing assemblies will be introduced in the Summer term for our youngest learners in Nursery and Reception.
Other performance opportunities for the children include: Class assemblies and Christmas shows.
HISN children love to sing and this variety of singing experiences gives all children an opportunity to feel successful, to grow in confidence to perform and be heard by others and be part of a ‘choir’.
There is a choir club for KS1 which is run in the Autumn and Spring terms for children who want to develop their performance skills. The choir perform for the whole school, for parents and at the Linden Hall Community Centre.
We also invite guests in to deliver music workshops; last term we hosted a Singing Hands workshop where our children learned to sign and sing.
It is wonderful seeing HISN children learning the power of singing to bring joy to themselves and others.
In EYFS we explore rhythm and beats through body percussion, untuned percussion instruments and dance. The children learn to move in time with the music or beat a steady pulse tapping their hands on their knees. Dances the children learn may be as part of PE or linked to our topic learning. Sometimes we just dance however we want to!
Also in EYFS, we explore how we can use home-made instruments to create music , for example rice in kitchen rolls or boxes become a maraca.
In years 1 and 2 we use Music Express to support our delivery of the Music curriculum. This helps ensure the children are experience music from a range of genres and begin to learn to compare music and describe how music changes. Dance features in our PE lessons in KS1 too where children learn to move in time to the pulse of the music being listened to Also, within KS1 our children are give varied opportunities to learn to use untuned (eg drums, cymbals, tambourines, triangles) and tuned (eg glockenspiel) percussion instruments. The children are given opportunities to create music often based around a theme for example the seaside.
As you can see musical opportunities are in abundance within our school.
The well being and safety of our children is everyone's responsibility. If you have concerns about a child please contact SPA on 547 5008 or out of hours on 0208 744 2442.
