Growing Successful Learners - Whakatipu Mātauranga

Matt's Message
Kia Ora Whānau
Welcome back to term 2.
Sickness
There is lots of sickness within and across our community at the moment, including COVID. We have had between 50-60 children away each day since returning to school with some children away for more than a week at a time.
Please, if your children are sick
1. Keep them Home
2. Contact the school to let us know.
The easiest way to do this is either phone and leave a message OR use the Report an Absence Feature on the school website found here.
Care - Manaakitanga
Care - Manaakitanga is one of our core school values and the value that we are really pressing with the tamariki at the moment. Our key reminders for Care - Manaakitanga is Respect for my belongings, Use kind words and actions, Use my body respectfully, I care for our environment, I am grateful.
One thing we would love to see a huge improvement on is the amount of lost property and school uniform that is unnamed. Please can we ask that you spend 10min checking that your child's uniform is named.
Parking
Our normal reminders here please whānau. Please do not park on yellow lines or in the bus stop on Dickson road. We have also had a request from the playcentre at the end of Simpson reserve to please not use their carpark either.
We know that parking is tight directly around the school - and sadly this wont change as this is all to do with the local council. However, the stake park and Butterworth Crescent are less than 2-3min walk. Likewise the walkway from Papamoa Beach Road can make connecting with your tamariki easy.
Bike Shed
At the end of last term we had a number of bikes and scooters left behind at the end of each day. Can we please ask that you make a plan for your children's bikes and scooters. While we endeavour to get these put away, there are days where we get caught up and this does not happen.
ALSO, with the number of tamariki who scooter to school, we have a number of scooters that are exactly the same. Could we ask that you name your children's scooters too please.
Sports Uniforms
As you will see below, we are starting to distribute our new sports uniforms for our winter codes. The Board has invested significantly into this for the tamariki in our school and we need to see this uniform last a number of years. We have set some clear guidelines and expectations for the use of our uniform.
One BIG request is PLEASE do not allow you children to 'play' at home or use these uniforms after school or on the weekends. These sports uniforms are for use at sports games and events only.
School Cross Country
Our School Cross Country is next Friday May 17th. We hold our Cross Country down at Gordon Spratt Reserve.
Guidelines for race times are as follows
11:10am Year 0/1 girls/boys (Karewa + Te Manawanui)
11:20am Year 2 girls/boys (Matakana + Te Manawanui)
11:30am Year 3 girls/boys (Tūhua + Te Manawanui )
11:40am Year 4 girls/boys (Tūhua + Te Manawanui)
11:50am Year 5 girls/boys (Mōtītī + Te Manawanui)
12:00pm Year 6 girls/boys (Mōtītī + Te Manawanui)
12:25pm Course closure - school depart
PLEASE NOTE, we will not start races before the times listed above so parents can plan their time to be at the event to support their children.
Teacher Only Days
Again, as shared at the end of last term, we have a teacher only day on Tuesday following Kings Birthday Weekend - Tuesday June 4th.

New Sports Uniforms
We are thrilled to unveil our new sports uniform that has arrived and will be issued to sports teams this term onwards.
With the introduction of the new uniform we will be implementing a more stringent sports uniform policy. Please take a moment to read over the following details:
Our new sports uniform represents more than just a change in attire, it embodies our dedication to instilling pride and unity among students. Its sleek design and standardised look reinforce our high expectations for athletes while eliminating visible signs of inequality. Safety is paramount, as the uniform aids in the identification of students during game and events. Additionally, it serves as a platform for students to express themselves through their accomplishments and contributions to the school community.
- Uniforms are issued by the Sports Coordinator at the beginning of each season. Care is taken to ensure uniform is the correct size for each student.
- They are to be exclusively worn for representing the school at sports during the season; please refrain from using them for any other purpose.
- Upon completion of the season, uniforms must be returned washed, cleaned, and in good condition within one week of your last game.
This uniform represents a significant financial investment for the school, with meticulous attention given to ensuring inclusivity for all with a complete size range.
We take pride in providing these uniforms to families free of charge and without the need for a bond. Each uniform will assigned to a specific student, with their name recorded alongside the uniform number. Failure to adhere to the sports uniform policy, including failure to return or properly care for the uniform, may result in charges for the full cost of replacement. A list of these prices will be issued to students when the uniform is issued.
Thank you for your cooperation in maintaining the effectiveness of our uniform policy moving forward.
School Uniform - Now Available on our School Shop
School Uniform is now available on our School Shop or from the office during our Uniform Sale hours.
Please note that uniform purchased on our School Shop includes a Kindo processing fee to cover school costs.
Kiwi Can
Kia Ora from the Kiwi Can team.
The theme that we are focusing on this term is Manaakitanga/Respect. Which fits in perfectly with the focus of the school value this term. We are learning to treat people, things and places as important. Our first topic is respect for our Taiao/environment, where we are learning the importance of respecting our public spaces, our plants and trees. We created nature art to demonstrate this value, explaining we didn’t use living plants only things we found on the ground to show respect for our environment.

Please include your child’s name, room and reason for absence.
If your child arrives at school after 8.40am they are late. Please ensure they sign in at the office before going to class. Thank you.
As part of our School-Links communication system, an automated text message will go out to all unexplained absences. This number is a reply once only.
While we understand that families sometimes need to take time away from school, it is essential that we as a school are notified.
Any absence longer than 20 school days will need to be approved in advance by the school principal. You can do this by sending an email to papamoaprimary@papamoa.school.nz explaining the reason for your child's absence and the dates they will be away. If your child is absent for longer than 20 school days the MOE instructs us to remove a child from our school roll. If you live outside of our school zone there is no guarantee that your child will be able to re-enrol at Pāpāmoa Primary School. It's important to keep communication open between us. If you have any questions or concerns about this process, please feel free to reach out to us.
Thank you for your cooperation and support in your child's education.
LUNCH ORDERS
You can order (or cancel) any time before 8.30am (Yum Yum Lunch) or 9am (Pita Pit) on the day or schedule in advance.
