A Note From the Teacher, Ms. Michele
I have been experiencing one of my favorite quotes from Maria Montessori, "The greatest sign of success of a teacher... is to be able to say, the children are now working as if I did not exist."
Open Enrollment for 2017-18 for the Montessori Program
We have had a busy enrollment period the last few weeks. A little more than half of our allotted K-2 spots are taken. Those of you that have completed this process we thank you and are excited to move forward with our expansion. If you are considering enrollment remember spaces are limited. Call centralized enrollment to get more information at 760-7658. If you are coming down to enroll make note we have a dinosaur exhibit that your child would love to see, compliments of Cranbrook Institute.
Montessori Open House
We had a wonderful turn out at last week's open house. A special "thank you" goes out to Ms. Michele and the entire Flint Montessori group that helped put on such a great event.
The Six Principles of the Montessori Prepared Environment
Montessori’s idea of the prepared environment was that everything the child came in contact with would facilitate and maximize independent learning and exploration. This calm, well-ordered environment has a lot of movement and activity. Children are free to choose and work on activities at their own pace. Here, they experience a combination of freedom and self-discipline, as guided by the environment.
There are generally six aspects, or principles, to the Prepared Environment: Freedom; Structure and Order; Beauty; Nature and Reality; Social Environment; Intellectual Environment. Learn more about each of these aspects, and why the prepared environment is so important to the success a child experiences with Montessori education!

Montessori at Home
Promote Concentration
The ability to focus and concentrate is an important skill for learning. You can help develop your child's concentration by observing what sparks his interst. Set him up with the means and materials to explore it, and let him work without interruption.
Create an Ordered Environment
To make things more accessible for your child create spaces where children can be independent.
*Snacks stored on low shelves for easy retrevial
*Place toys on bottom shelves for easy use and organization
Teach Real-Life Skills
Have your child help out at home. Young children can help with sorting clothes, putting them away and tidying up their room. They can be shown how to do any task and given the opportunity to practice it.
