TUTORING
We have many opportunities available if your child needs extra support in academic areas. Please see the times below for tutoring hours. Your child's teachers may also recommend tutoring if your child would benefit from additional supports.
Tutoring for BMS will begin on Monday, September 9. All students staying for tutoring will receive a free snack and drink!
Please call Mrs. Karnes at 573-568-4283 with any questions you may have.
CELL PHONES at BMS- We need your help!
Cell phones cause distractions in our learning environment. We are asking for your help with this. Consider this: you are sitting in class, and your phone in your pocket vibrates. Even if you cannot pull it out to check it, what are you thinking about? Your mind isn't on what the class is focused on, because it's wondering why the phone vibrated, who messaged you, or who sent a snap. We are asking you to please encourage your child to put their phones in the classroom pockets each time they enter, or to leave the phones in their backpacks/lockers for the day.
If you need to communicate something with your child, please communicate through our office and we will relay the message. Students may come to the office if they need to send you a message, as well. We are not asking you to not communicate, but to help us minimize distractions to make our learning environments more productive.
Check out the experiment one teacher did below. I am confident that if we did this same experiment with our students, the results would be similar. We need your support and help to keep our students focused on learning. Thank you in advance!
COMMUNICATION - Teacher/Class Remind Codes
Communication between home and school is vital for your child's success at BMS! Here is a list of our teacher's Remind codes: 24-25 BMS Teacher Remind Codes
You can download the Remind App to join the classes, or you can text each teacher's code to 81010 to join by text message. This will allow you to send messages to teachers and receive any communications the teachers send.
Pep Club T-Shirt Fundraiser
Pep Club is selling t-shirts as a fundraiser. Forms are available in the office and are due by September 4. Contact Mrs. Vandiver at cvandiver@bps14.org with any questions!
Wayfinder
Our district is pleased to announce the introduction of a new tool, Wayfinder, that will help us monitor and improve the Social Emotional health of all our students. Stay tuned for more information.
BMS Parent Information Night
Our BMS faculty will host a Parent Information Night for families on Tuesday, September 24th at 6:00 PM. It will be held in the middle school building. Parents will learn information about BMS and will have the opportunity to ask questions. A survey will be sent soon about topics you would like us to include in this event.
Green Bear and S.A.F.E. Programs
The S.A.F.E. program for 6th-8th grades are scheduled for September 30. 5th grade will attend the Green Bear program on October 31. An informative letter will be sent home soon.
Please contact Mrs. Dixon if you have any questions or concerns.
BMS House System- A PLACE FOR EVERYONE TO BELONG!
On Friday, August 30, we will hold our 4th Annual BMS House Sorting Ceremony! For families new to our building, we utilize a House System as a way to bring all of our students together. Everyone in our building is in a House. Each House has traditions, history, and principles they stand for. Our four Houses are:
- ALTRUISMO, the House of Givers
- AMISTAD, the House of Friendship
- ISIBINDI, the House of Courage
- REVEUR, the House of Dreamers
Our House System gives EVERYONE a group to be a part of. We compete against each other to see which House can earn the most points each week, quarter, and for the whole year. Students earn points for academic achievements, attendance, following our building expectations, good character, and school spirit (joining a club or sport, attending sporting events, etc). The competitions can be very close and exciting!
EVERY Wednesday is HOUSE SPIRIT DAY! We all wear our House color and can sit with our House members to eat lunch. Students will receive their House shirts for this year in a few weeks. We have a House meeting once a month with a lesson to work on service projects, and then we also have House competitions with team-building activities once each month. The lessons and games are led by our House Leaders, who are 8th grade students selected to lead their Houses for the year.
FCS
The Fellowship of Christian Students/Staff meets in the high school library every Wednesday from 7:30-7:50am. All students and staff are invited to participate.
