Chicago Steel Assembly
The Chicago Steel Hockey Team visited Davis School this week and presented an exciting and motivating assembly to our students. Their theme, “Live Strong as Steel,” promoted character development with players & coaches giving real-life inspiration. In the pictures below you can see students holding these character traits: Kindness, Respect, Responsibility, Cooperation, Empathy, Citizenship, Perseverance and Fairness. Please ask your child what he/she learned about one of these traits!
Each student received a free child ticket to the Steel Hockey game on Saturday, October 19th. The game will begin at 6:05 pm and will be held at the Fox Valley Ice Arena, 1996 South Kirk Rd, in Geneva. IMPORTANT: the free child ticket must be redeemed online by Thursday, October 17th. All Steel Hockey tickets are digital and must be ordered along with the QR code on your child’s free ticket. Please visit their website for other game dates and info: chicagosteelhockeyteam.com.
(Please note -the Hockey ticket voucher still refers to Davis as the Tigers since we have not chosen our new mascot yet!)
Davis Scarecrow Display
Student Council Members are helping to put together the Davis Scarecrow for the Scarecrow Festival! All the students at Davis helped create a piece for our display. Be sure to go see it and vote next weekend!
Artsonia, Davis' virtual art gallery is up and running! Keep an eye out in the next week or so for permission slips or an email that will be sent home. Each permission slip contains a link you can use to access your student's artwork, which has been published to the Artsonia website. All artwork remains "hidden" until accounts are activated. Once the account is activated, you can invite friends and family to be a part of your student's "fan club"! Fan club members will be notified when new artwork is published and fans can leave encouraging comments for their artists! Please contact us if you have any questions:

Safety & Security Update
Davis Families,
Earlier this week you received a district communication detailing D303’s efforts to enhance safety procedures for our students. In August, D303 educators took part in online and in-person ALICE training, which stands for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. As a result of this training, we are prepared to deliver age-appropriate lessons to our students, which will teach an options-based approach when responding to critical incidents.
Starting the week of September 30th, students will view an informational video, introducing them to the concepts of ALICE. Then throughout the fall students will engage in six lessons, roughly two lessons per month, with each lesson focusing the core ALICE concepts: Situational Awareness, Alert, Lockdown, Inform, and Evacuate.
Lessons are differentiated based on age-appropriateness and broken down into the following age groups:
Early Childhood-Kindergarten
1st Grade-3rd Grade
4th-5th Grade
Middle School
High School
D303’s Safety and Security website has been updated to include informational ALICE resources, such as parent letters for each lesson. Students will participate in their first safety drill utilizing the ALICE concepts in January. For more information you are encouraged to visit the ALICE Family and Community site.
If you have any questions specific to your child’s learning, feel free to contact me at 331-228-2881

DAVIS FALL PARTY AND COSTUME INFO
Fall parties are right around the corner, and we would like you to be aware of our plans and expectations so that you can help your student to prepare. Our celebration is scheduled for Thursday, October 31st.
Parade
The parade will be held outside from 1:55 to 2:15 pm. Parents may line up around the Kindergarten playground off of Horne Street to watch the parade.
Classroom parties will run from 2:15 pm to 3:00 pm
Room Parents will be allowed to go to classrooms at 1:30 pm for party setup and to assist with costumes after they have checked in at the office
In the event of inclement weather, there will not be a parade
Costume & Party Guidelines
Students should bring costumes in a bag. Costumes must be appropriate for school. Costumes should not be violent or scary in nature. No blood, guts, or weapons. No masks. Make-up is discouraged because it is difficult to apply. No bare midriffs or scant clothing. Students may be asked to remove or put away any parts of costumes based on teacher judgment.
Room Parents who are assisting with the parties should not wear disguises that would make it difficult to recognize them as a safe person
Only Room Parents may attend the classroom parties and assist students.
Room Parent Guidelines
No more than 4 room parents per classroom may attend. (Others may assist with preparations or goody bags). Sign-up for Room Parents was completed through our PTO in September.
If you have never had your ID/drivers license scanned at the school, it is very helpful to have that done prior to the party. Stop by the office at your convenience.
Lead Parent: Work with the classroom teacher & other room parents on activities/games for the party
Lead Parent: Coordinate with the teacher & other room parents on any non-edible goody bags to be sent home. No food treats will be eaten during the party or sent home.
