Principal's Message
Kellogg Families,
I hope you had a fantastic first weekend of June.
I am thankful to all our counselors who cleared their calendars and made themselves available to students who were feeling uncomfortable or anxious last Friday. Also, out of an abundance of caution, thank you to our PPS Security Services team for providing additional security personnel during the school day and during the dance last Friday. The safety and well-being of our students and staff is our top priority and we take threats very seriously. We have followed up and will continue to follow up with the individuals who took part in spreading the false rumors.
As the school year comes to a close, we have many celebrations for our students to look forward to. Our 6th graders are getting pumped for their annual kickball tournament. Our 7th graders will be participating in various field day events. Our 8th graders will be taking a final trip to Oaks Park. As a school, we will also reflect on the year and look forward to the summer during assemblies this Friday.
Have a wonderful week ahead!
Mr. Thai Nguyen
Principal
Kellogg Middle School
End of Year Expecations
As we wind down the end of year, we can feel students excitement rise as they get ready to start summer. We need your help to remind students summer doesn't start until June 14th at 3:45pm!
Our expectations are the same, but here are few we want to review with students.
Please remind students to limit bathroom or nurse visits. We have some students who ask to use the restroom every period and/or visit the nurse daily.
Students need to be in class on time. We are seeing an increase in tardies. You can view your students tardies in studentvue.
Keep hands to self. This includes play fighting or "joking" around with friends. All student should keep hands to self at all times.
With the weather warming up, we are seeing an increase in students bringing squirt guns and other water toys. These items cause a disruption and are prohibited on campus. Please talk to your child and ensure your child is not bringing these items to school.
Remember to attend the school dance no more than 5+ referrals or a 2/3 referral. Continued infraction will result in the loss of privileges including end of year school events: 8th grade Oaks Park, 6th grade kickball tournament, 7th grade end of year celebration, etc.
Please note we will not refund money for field trips if students loss their privilege to attend.
Library Books Overdue!
.Please check your shelves, under the bed, behind the couch, everywhere! for books to return to the library. Contact me at jsmith4@pps.net if you have any questions.
Thank you,
Miss Jayne & Ms. Nowak
Counseling Corner
This past week, your 6th grade counselors completed the lesson on Bullying and Harassment. We also addressed what happens when a student completes an incident report, and how to report anonymously through the Safe Oregon tipline.
Our final lesson will be next week beginning to explore strengths, skills, and interests on the CIS (Career Information Systems) platform. Please make sure your child brings a charged chromebook on Monday and Tuesday.
Also! Still looking for 6TH GRADE REPRESENTATION at Monday’s Student Congress with Mr. Nguyen! Show up at 8:15 in the cafeteria and weigh in on important matters affecting our school community. See you there!
8th Grade Corner
The 2024-25 Inner Peace Corps program, will run September to April of next year.
This free (and super fun) arts+wellness leadership experience is for high school students interested in exploring, developing, and sharing creative practices that support inner well-being (no art experience needed). Students will meet twice a month — once in person, once online. In addition to opportunities to connect and create, they'll have the chance to earn $$ by representing the Inner Peace Corps at events, and going into elementary schools to support younger students.
On June 2, 4-5PM, we're hosting a zoom info session for students and their parents/guardians. For those who can't make it, we'll reach out again in September with another date. Here's the zoom link and interest form.

Last General Meeting Wednesday June 5 at 6:30pm
We need someone to take on the secretary position. This can be a low-key position and no experience is needed. You would primarily be taking and sharing meeting minutes at the board and general meetings. Without someone willing to take on this role, the PTSA will be forced to disband. We can't let this happen!!
Kellogg is still new and is in the process of creating community, traditions and its own culture. This requires lots of help and participation from our families. With our small PTSA we were able to help with school dances, show love for our teachers during appreciation week, provide speakers at PTSA meetings, and most excitingly help the 8th graders get a trip to Oaks Park. We encourage student participation as well. Our student coalition created, planned and executed the Shrek movie night, and it was so cool to see their independence. Think about how much more we can do if we are able to keep going! Middle school is tough, the kids need our support to make Kellogg a real community. Being part of the PTSA is a great way to shape the culture of our school. We hope to see you on June 5th at 6:30 pm.
We would also love to have someone step up as co-president or vice-president, if either of those roles sound more your speed. The previous board will remain part of the PTSA to support, you won't be on your own!
