Slate Ridge Weekly Newsletter
September 13, 2024
Dr. Parlar, Principal
Dear Slate Ridge Families,
As the crisp fall air settles in and the leaves begin to change, we're reminded of the beauty of the season—and the importance of being present during this crucial time in our students' academic journey. Consistent attendance is key to your child's success, as every day of learning builds upon the last.
Please ensure your child is here, ready to learn each day. If your child must be absent, communication is vital. Be sure to notify our office and keep in close contact with your child’s teacher. Together, we can track their academic growth and provide the support they need to thrive.
Thank you for partnering with us in your child’s education. Let’s make this fall a season of growth and achievement!
Warm regards,
Dr. Parlar

Student Ambassadors!
We had a great discussion about what is working, what is not working so far at Slate Ridge. Ambassadors did an amazing job with sharing their likes and dislikes about the school environment. I am so proud of them for being honest and brave! I love hearing their voices!
This weeks' Positive Office Referral Winners!
Our Positive Office Referral winners have earned their prizes and recognition by exemplifying the RISE expectations—showing responsibility, integrity, self-control, and engagement.
Literacy Corner
Literacy is the foundation of all learning, and fostering strong reading and writing skills in children is essential for their academic success. Parents play a crucial role in this process by encouraging reading at home, discussing books together, and creating a positive environment for learning. To support your efforts, we've compiled useful resources and information that you can explore through the following links on our website. We also attached some information about how to support your student at home. Working together, we can ensure that every child develops a love for reading and the skills they need to thrive.
Innovation Corner
Slate Ridge Elementary School has started the implementing Project Lead the Way curriculum. We were approved for a PLTW grant for the next three years.
We applied to receive a $5,000 Ohio STEM Learning Network (OSLN)/Batelle grant. The grant will help purchase coding robots and more for the Innovation program!

Arrival Time to Slate Ridge!
AM Arrival 9:10-9:20am - Enter from Taylor Rd., pull through the car rider loop, and drop students along the sidewalk in the pickup/drop zone. Exit through the neighborhood. Students will enter the building through the back gym entrance. Students arriving after 9:20am will be marked tardy and must be signed in by a parent/guardian at the front office.
IMPORTANT: Drop off/Pick Up
- Your child should exit the car from the passenger side, closest to the school. They should exit when you have moved up as far as possible to allow for 6-7 cars to drop at a time. Your student should be ready to exit the car when you get to that farthest spot possible.
- Please pull all the way up to the farthest point to drop off. If you are the lead car, this should be to the end of the sidewalk along the building. This allows 6-7 cars to drop off in the actual loop.
- Please do not pass any cars that are stopped in the lane. This is extremely unsafe and can put our students in danger. Please refer back to the first bullet point in this email as well in making sure your students are ready to exit the car so as not to hold up the line.
- Please be patient. We all want to provide the safest situation that we can.
- To ensure our students get to school safely, we have collaborated with the City of Reynoldsburg and the Reynoldsburg Police Department and have identified some traffic issues you may encounter during arrival and dismissal. Please note that the RPD might issue a citation if there are any violations. Parents speeding through the neighborhood (to the west of the building) to come in the back lot to drop kids off.
- Please be patient while we are training our students to get used to our arrival and dismissal procedure in the first couple of weeks. We appreciate your cooparetaion.
- We know that everyone wants to get their children to school safely and on time. Thank you for being a partner as we ensure a smooth drop-off and pick-up process.
PBIS at SRES
Our Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support (PBIS) program plays a crucial role in fostering a positive and safe environment for our students. We emphasize consistent language between staff and families to help our students grow. This September, our focus is on respect, with weekly themes including self-respect, acceptance, diversity, and attentiveness. Students practice these traits with the support of their peers, teachers, our School Counselor, and Social Worker. If you have any questions or want to learn more, please reach out to your student's teacher.
