Hello Caldwell Families,

Welcome to November! This year is rocking along and learning is happening each and every day. With only 5.5 instructional weeks left in the fall semester, teachers are busy making sure that all students have purposeful learning opportunities and are experiencing success in their classroom.

We continue to have many ways for our families to engage with the school community. Thank you to all of the parents who volunteered their time last Friday and helped to make the PTO Fall Fling a huge success. We have several opportunities this month for you to get involved and be an active participant in your child's education while also supporting the school. Please read below for information about the upcoming PTO events, our Veterans Day celebration, Marching into Math Night, and our annual Community Holiday Tree.

Finally, as we enter the season of Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to share my gratitude for having the privilege to serve the Caldwell community. I am thankful for each of the individual 545 students who walk through our doors each day. I am thankful for each parent that entrusts their precious kiddos to us. I am thankful for the dedicated educators who make the choice each morning to impact the lives of children.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be apart of something so special.

We have put in place a new early pick up procedure at Caldwell. We are asking parents to please not check their student out after 2:30pm. At this time, we are beginning our preparations for dismissal and it can be confusing and hectic when we are trying to locate students and change their dismissal plans this close to the end of the day. If you know you are going to need your student early for an appointment, please arrive before 2:30pm. If your student does not have an appointment, please wait until 2:50pm and follow the regular dismissal procedures.

Please remember that all traffic should be making a right hand turn out of the school parking lot during morning drop off and afternoon pickup. This helps to keep traffic moving smoothly and is safer for students crossing at the cross walk. We appreciate your cooperation.

Each 9-weeks we hold a Power of Positive Students (POPS) Rally. This is an assembly where we celebrate 2nd-5th graders who have achieved All As, All As & Bs, and Perfect Attendance for the grading period. Parents and family members are welcome to attend. One student will also be selected from each class as the Student of the Month for exhibiting our monthly character trait. Parents will be notified if their student will be receiving this award.

**REMINDER- Always bring a picture ID with you when visiting the school. You will not be able to enter the school building without an ID.**

We will be honoring our Veterans with a hallway parade, breakfast, and performance on Friday, November 10th at 8:00am. All visitors should check-in at the front office. Please remember that you must bring your picture ID to sign-in. We will begin checking in families at 7:20. Come early as the line sometimes gets long.

Veterans will gather in the cafeteria to prepare for the hallway parade and are then invited to a breakfast and a performance immediately following the parade in the cafeteria. Families received a note home asking for donations of breakfast items.

At Caldwell we have an annual tradition of PTO providing the teachers and staff with a soups and pies feast before we leave for Thanksgiving break. Our hardworking teachers look forward to this event every year because it is always filled with tons of delicious things. We will continue the Caldwell holiday tradition that started last year! We will have a Community Tree set up in our foyer. We are wanting all Caldwell families to bring one tree ornament to school that represents their family to hang on the tree. Our goal is for the tree to celebrate all of the unique characteristics and diversity of our community. Please CLICK HERE for more details. Holiday Resource Guide 2023

As the weather begins to turn cooler, students will begin wearing jackets, sweaters, hoodies, etc. to school. As this happens, we always begin to have an overflow of items in the Lost and Found. Please help by labeling all of your student's outerwear. This ensures we can get it back to them when it is found.

The "Dads of Great Students," or Watch D.O.G.S. program, provides positive male role models for campuses around the nation and has been active for over two decades. We are excited to bring the program to Caldwell this year and are looking for dads, grand-dads, uncles, etc who will be willing to come volunteer their time. This time may be spent being a presence in the hallways, checking doors, supporting students at recess and at lunch, or helping students with their academics.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer please:

1. Fill out this Google form to show interest and to stay up to date on Watch D.O.G.S. happenings around Caldwell, and
2. Go to the district web site to fill out a volunteer application. This application can be found at https://www.pfisd.net/volunteers.

We need ALL families to complete the online Free and Reduced Lunch application. This application will determine if your student is eligible to receive free or reduced lunch everyday for the entire school year. Families must reapply each school year. It is very important to complete this application even if you don't think your child will qualify. Part of the funding for our campus is determined from the results of the submitted applications. We will have computers set up at our Back to School event if you would like to submit your application at that time. All students receive free breakfast.
