Free Student Heart Checks
Corewell Health will be providing a Free Student Heart Check screening Saturday, November 2nd at Ferndale High School from 9 am to 1 pm. Appointments are available to the public for any student aged 13-18. Students do not have to be an athlete to attend but do need to make an appointment. The screening provides a blood pressure check, EKG, cardiac health and history, and focused Echo with Corewell Cardiologists for free. Students also learn hands only CPR and how to use an AED.
Pumpkin Decorating at Monteith
Last week, Monteith participated in the 22nd Annual Pumpkin Decorating contest. They had about 128 families participate and raised $640.00 for the Grosse Pointe Foundation for Public Education!
Devils n Donuts at South
South Athletics and Devils Den hosted "Devils n Donuts" to end their rivalry spirit week and "kick off" the morning of the North-South football game. Friday morning started with more Blue Devil students and donuts than they could count! The football team showed up with their bright white uniforms, team spirit and enthusiasm to hand out donuts to their peers. Devils Den woke up the school with their fun music and the Marching Band played a few hits. A special thank you to Nate M., a senior at South, for designing the cool logo for all the student communication!
GearHeads visit the GP Optimist Club
The GearHeads presented to the GP Optimist Club, generous local sponsor of the team, to share their program. Great job to Gavin, Allen, Lilu, Eli, and Michael for a wonderful presentation!
Family Pumpkins at Mason
Kindergarteners at Mason display their creativity with a family pumpkin project! Students have been learning about the different parts of the pumpkin, labeling these parts, and they each brought their own unique designs to life!
Parking Spot Painting at North
North Seniors participated in a parking spot painting fundraiser this weekend. Seniors were able to paint their reserved parking spot. It was a wonderful way to connect as a senior class, show school spirit, and raise money for the Senior All Night Party and Prom.
Gift of Time at Kerby
Last week at Kerby, one of their PTO members, Mrs. Ashley Bertrand, gave teachers a thoughtful gift – the "gift of time." Teachers were able to sign up for 20-minute slots, with the option to take up to an hour, using the time however they wished—whether to plan lessons, prepare materials, or simply relax with a coffee break. Meanwhile, Mrs. Bertrand led the students in a structured and meaningful lesson, followed by a fun craft activity. The crafts the students created will be used to decorate the Glow Dance coming up in January. Kerby teachers were incredibly grateful for this kind and supportive gesture. Thank you to Mrs. Bertrand for her generosity!
Voting at Mason
Ms. Biske, Mason's Library Media Specialist, held elections for Mason students to vote for either Grace or Duck after reading Grace for President or Duck for President! Students casted their votes using their own ballot to place in the voting box, and received an "I Voted" sticker to wear proudly!
Blown Fuses and GearHeads visit the Community Tailgate
Parcells' Blown Fuses and the high school GearHeads represented at the Community Tailgate. Students displayed their engineering robots, which included a ball tossing bot and bubble blowing adapted switch toys, to the community.

Parcells Choir visits Senior Living
Parcells sixth grade choirs visited Sunrise Senior Living on Monday, Oct. 21 and Oct. 28, to sing Halloween music for the residents. The Parcells choirs take weekly visits to share music beyond the four walls of their classroom and to build relationships with both their choir family and the greater community.
Regional Honors Choir
For the first time in over 10 years, North Choirs are sending 3 students to Regional Honors Choir in December. Congratulations to Tejas S. (senior), William M. (junior) and Mckenzie W. (sophomore)!
CTE
It’s just about Turkey Time!
Please click this link to view the Sign Up Genius if you’d like to contribute to this #OneGP Family and Consumer Sciences Service Learning Opportunity! Last year, FCS classes from all three middle schools, as well as the high school Culinary Arts classes, made whole turkeys, gravy, mashed potatoes, vegetables, corn bread, and pumpkin bars and were able to feed dinner to over 150 people through the Motor City Mitten Mission. We thank you for your support and contributions!
Off & Out of Sight Reminder
All secondary students are to have access to a technology learning device. The GPPSS BYOD Handbook supports the district's strategic plan for student learning and growth. Students use their technology learning device to access Schoology -- the GPPSS's Learning Management System.
Additionally, cell phones are OFF AND OUT OF SIGHT all day for middle school, and during class time for high school students. If students need to be reached during the school day, please continue to contact the main office.
Middle school students may use their phones before the first school bell and after the final school bell. High school students may use their phone during passing time and at lunch, as well as before and after school.
