Thank you for entrusting us with your students during the LA wildfires. We understand families' concerns about air quality, and we want to reassure you that our students' and staff's safety and health are our top priorities. We are working closely with our school district to monitor the environment and provide a safe and healthy school environment. Last week, we used indoor spaces before school and during lunch to limit outdoor settings. We will continue to adjust our outdoor schedule as needed based on guidance from LBUSD. We appreciate your understanding and support during this time. Please see below for an opportunity to donate baby supplies for families affected by the LA wildfires led by the JLA student council.

It is High School Choice time for our 8th students and families. January is the exploration phase of SOC. We encourage our families to visit the High School Site Nights to see any schools your child may be interested in attending. These nights will include guided tours, information sessions, and opportunities to meet with school staff. All of the site nights for each high school are listed below.

Your child will take the Pulse Survey in their electives classes on Wednesday. This survey, designed to understand how students feel about JLA and middle school, includes topics such as being part of the school community, positive relationships with adults and students, and self-esteem. We encourage all students to participate as their feedback is valuable in shaping our school environment.

Here are a few details as you prepare for this week at JLA:

• Regular Day Schedule: Monday- Friday 8:00-2:40
• Girls Basketball tryouts: Tuesday 3:00-4:00
• Pulse Student Survey: Wednesday in elective classes
• College Shirt Friday: Friday

I am excited to introduce myself as the new school counselor at Jefferson Leadership Academy. My name is Mally Badawi. I have a master's in Counseling and Special education, and my experiences have given me the opportunity to be in and out of the classroom. I am genuinely looking forward to working with each of you to support the academic, social, and emotional well-being of our students. When picking up your student before school dismissal, please plan to pick up your student before or after the lunch period. To support lunch supervision, all support staff are unavailable, and we will not be able to release students who are at lunch. Please plan ahead and pick up your student before or after lunch.

8th grade Parents- It's time to start thinking about the process of selecting a high school for your student. This is a very important and exciting time. Here is the schedule for the high school choice site nights where you will be able to visit and learn about our LBUSD high schools!
