Eagle Excellence Volume #16
Vivian Banks Charter School: Jan. 21-24, 2025
Weekly Message from Mr. Costa
Dear Eagle Community,
I hope that you all enjoyed the Monday off from school in honor and remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Tomorrow, we are excited to start another wonderful week at Vivian Banks Charter School.
Since mid-December, our daily attendance rates have been in decline. This can be attributed to many issues: illnesses, holiday travel out of country, and the fire/windy weather conditions that have made school a difficulty. However, these challenges have dropped us to a cumulative attendance rate of 93.59%, our lowest of the school year. Additionally, our current rate of Chronic Absenteeism sits at 23.9%, our highest of the school year. The good news is that we can significantly reduce that percentage quickly, as the majority of students who are currently identified as chronically absent are close to coming off the list.
I would like to sincerely ask for your renewed collaboration and support in sending your student(s) to school each and every day. The second semester is incredibly important for academic and social time, and we need all of our students to be present daily.
Let's work together to improve our cumulative attendance rate back toward 95% (where we were for a good part of the first semester) and reduce our rate of Chronic Absenteeism to as low as we possibly can. At one point in mid-November, the rate of chronic absenteeism at Vivian Banks Charter School was a very small and very awesome 2.8%. We can get back to those amazing numbers!
As always, if you have any questions, comments, ideas, or would like to say hello in person, please feel free to email me at daniel.costa@bonsallusd.com. I look forward to meeting and working with each of you to support the amazing students of Vivian Banks Charter School. Have a wonderful week!
