A letter from the Principal
Dear Mav Nation,
I want to say a huge thank you to Mav Nation for the surprise celebration on Monday, February 10th. Principal Jamie Baldwin Day will forever be a special day to me and I loved celebrating with my students and staff.
My admin team never ceases to amaze me and I am still blown away by the celebration they planned in my honor. I am truly blessed to lead alongside a great team. To celebrate Secondary Principal of the Year with my Mavericks, family and friends meant the world to me. A special thank you to Mayor Dan Davis for proclaiming February 10th as Principal Baldwin Day in the City of Manvel and my admin team for organizing the event. As I reflect on my 16 years in education, February 10th brings tears of joy in my eyes. It will always be a reminder that servant leadership never goes unnoticed.
As I have said since the beginning of the school year, if we can do the simple things right (dress code, attendance, grades), we will be prepared for any unforeseen major event. All students were issued student IDs on Tuesday, January 7th as part of the Alvin ISD safety plan. We have given students six weeks to become acclimated to wearing their IDs. This is now apart of the dress code and I need your assistance with holding our students accountable.
When students return on Tuesday, February 18th, consequences for not wearing IDs will begin. If your student has lost their ID, they can go to the library and purchase a new ID for $5. Below are the consequences that will be issued, as students have been reminded daily for 6 weeks to wear their IDs.
- 1 - 2 Temporary IDs requested in one week (warning)
- 3 or more Temporary IDs in one week (ECO- after school detention)
- 6 or more Temporary IDs in one Month (ECO- after school detention)
- Not wearing an ID (ECO- after school detention)
Dress code is another area that I need your assistance. We have been celebrating great accomplishments over the last few weeks and we will continue to reward students with dress up theme days but we need to tighten back up on appropriate attire for school. Dress code enforcement has been occurring since the first day of school and students will not be given warnings. Dress Code infractions, even if they can be corrected will result in ECO (after school detention) Below are the most common infractions
- Athletic tights and leggings (can only be worn with a top 3 inches above the Knee NOT a shirt or hoodie that only covers the butt)
- Midriffs and crop tops
- Slides and shoes without backs (I witnessed a student fall down the stairs wearing slides)
- Earbuds and headphones in class and in the hallways (they are only allowed before 7:10AM, lunch and after 2:50 PM)
- Having the student ID in a pocket or backpack
I truly believe with your support and reminders, we can reset and return to doing the little things right. My number one goal is always to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for every student at MHS. Thank you always for your partnership and support. It truly take a village to raise a child and Mav Nation is a great village.
Hoka Hey,
Jamie Baldwin, Principal
