Next week is Read Across America Week! There is a theme and special activity each day. We would love for your child to join in the fun!
Book Fair!
Book Fair was super fun! Each student was given a $15 credit. We loved sharing our new books!
Word Wall Words
Pictured above are this week’s new words. Please have your child practice the Word Wall Words. It helps build their confidence, fluency, and comprehension when reading. Bessie-Grace colored this week’s masterpiece!
Below, Bessie-Grace is creating words with cereal. What a simple and yummy way to learn!
Literacy Workstations
Big books are a fun way to motivate children to want to read. Their size makes it easy to notice details in illustrations and it is easier to track the print.
Word Work
During Word Work the students generated rhyming words and wrote them on dry erase boards. They did a great job listening for sounds and making the correct substitutions with the beginning sounds.
Reading
Reading with a buddy is fun!
Shared Reading
Joel read the conclusion of our shared reading book. Afterwards, we talked about the differences and similarities of the characters. Some things were named in the story and others had to be inferred.
Math
We created subtraction problems by bowling. The students took turns rolling the ball to make an equation. For instance, Aaliyah knocked down 3 pins, leaving 7 still standing (10 - 3 = 7).
Math Workstations
Aria and Charlotte are enjoying creating structures with the magnetic geometric shapes.
Science
We began a weather unit this week. We took advantage of the sunny day and did some gardening.
Environmental Scientist!
Laila was the first student to submit all of her environmental science projects! She did a great job! There are still several weeks left to get these activities done!
Practicing for the Father-Daughter Dance!
The girls are so excited to come to the dance on Friday! Not to worry, if you have a son, there will be a special date night for them coming soon.
February Challenge
February’s challenge is to learn to tie our own shoes. There are lots of videos on YouTube. Click the link for a fun shoe tying song! (When you click this link, click the blue button to access the shoe tying video.)
