Final Exam Information
Final exams for the first semester are mandatory for all students in grades 9–12 and will count for 10% of the semester grade. Please remember that courses are not considered complete until the final exam has been completed. If your student is unable to attend final exams on December 19 and 20, pre-arranged absences must be submitted by parents/guardians to the office by Friday, December 6. Absence requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the administration.
Final exams will follow this schedule:
Thursday, December 19:
Periods: 2, 4, 6, and 8
Friday, December 20:
Periods: 1, 5, and 7
One final note, campus will be open during finals. Students who do not have a scheduled final will be able to leave and return as appropriate. However, it is essential that students arrive on time for their scheduled exams, as late arrivals will not be granted additional time. Students who elect not to leave campus will report to the commons until their next scheduled exam.
Thank you for your attention to these important dates and requirements as we approach the end of the semester. If you have any questions regarding final exams, please contact the KHS office at 309-289-2324.

Midwest Bank Visit
On Friday, November 1st, Ms. Allie Pemberton from Midwest Bank of Galesburg spoke to Mrs. Dunlap’s Math 4 and Mrs. Hise’s English 4 classes. She talked about how young adults can build a credit score and warned the students of the various pitfalls to watch out for. Ms. Pemberton is a graduate of Knoxville High School and told the students about how she came to the decision to study business and finance. The Math 4 class is learning about the importance of a good credit score and what that means for taking out a loan. Math 4 students have been learning how to calculate loan payments and the long term effects that a high interest rate and poor credit score can have on a loan.
Knox College Student Visit
On Wednesday, November 13, three visitors from Knox College came to visit Knoxville High School for two hours. Two of the visitors were students from Germany accompanied by Mr. Todd Heidt, a German professor at Knox College. They observed Mrs. Dunlap’s first period German class and Mrs. Hise’s second period English class, as well as taking a tour of the high school building. The German college students were very impressed by the facilities that we have that are not found in a German high school. They were impressed by the auditorium and by the bleachers and banners in the gymnasium. Sports are separate from school in Germany and are run by sports clubs. They were also surprised that students as young as 15 take driver’s education offered at school, since in Germany they must be 18 years old and pay over $3,000 to attend a driving school.
Also, in a typical German high school, teachers move from room to room and students stay in one place. They were able to witness the 5 minute transition, as students moved to their next class. They visited Mr. Weaver’s room briefly to see how just how teachers can put their individual styles and interests into the decorating of their classroom. The visitors enjoyed playing a trivia game over Macbeth with Mrs. Hise’s class and were very grateful for the opportunity to see an American high school in person before heading back to Germany next week to continue their studies to be teachers themselves.
