Monster Mash Highlights
Paine First Graders Become "Pumpkin Detectives"
Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Cantrell, and Mrs. Royston/Carlson's first graders became pumpkin detectives! They explored everything about pumpkins. They discovered their colors, shapes, sizes, and even their insides! Students used cubes to measure the height, counted seeds, and labeled all the different parts of a pumpkin!
This investigation allowed our first graders to engage with the topic in a hands-on, interactive way while developing observation and measurement skills!
Halloween Science Activities at Magnolia
Fifth graders in Jill Christopher's science classes recently studied the physical and chemical changes in matter and created their very own mixtures and solutions! According to Mrs. Christopher, "We finished the month of October with some exciting Halloween science activities, including a Mystery Science lesson titled Why Do Our Skeletons Have So Many Bones? Then, we made x-ray sun catchers of our hands."
Choose Your Own Adventure Day at Cahaba
Cahaba’s annual Choose Your Own Adventure Day for Fourth and Fifth graders was a huge success! We’re so grateful to our incredible Specialist Team and all the guest presenters who inspired students with hands-on learning and real-world experiences. Students explored careers in art and digital design with Rachel Brockman, police drones with Officer James McCool, nuclear engineering with Ben Horton, construction with Jesse Lincoln, civil engineering with Jim Meads, digital and art animation with Hannah Smith, STEM with Mike Evans, physical therapy with Bill Serena, chiropractic care with Bryan Serena, nutrition with Melissa Donaldson, athletic training with Mike Ryan, sports media with Chad Summers, medicine with Dr. Stephen Higgins, and baseball with former Marlins pitcher Edgar Olmos. They also experienced the Alabama Industrial Development Mobile Training STEM Truck’s virtual reality and robot dog! Special thanks to all our presenters for going the extra mile to make this day memorable for our students!
HTMS Holds Inaugural Drum Circle
This week, HTMS hosted its very first drum circle, marking a special moment for our Life Skills classes and the entire school community. During homecoming, students rallied together for the Dollars for Drums challenge, successfully raising over $5,000 to purchase adaptive drums. This effort not only brought new musical resources to our Life Skills classes but also fostered a wonderful sense of unity. To close out the event, Mrs. Bruno’s theater class joined in, adding their energy and creativity to the circle. A big thank you to everyone who contributed and helped bring the rhythm to HTMS!
HTHS Students Visit Thompson Tractor Company
Our Modern Manufacturing Program students and Electrical Technologies Academy students at Hewitt--Trussville High School had the opportunity to tour Thompson Tractor Company and learn all about career opportunities within their company!
