From the Principal's Desk
Dear Eagle Families,
Due to a citywide issue, we are currently unable to update and print your child's report cards. As the NYPS works to resolve this problem, we must postpone the printing and release of the report cards, originally scheduled for Monday, December 9th. A paper copy of your childβs report card will be sent home as soon as possible. You can continue to access your childβs available academic and attendance information anytime through your NYC Schools Account.
If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to your child's teacher. They have time built into their schedule to support students and families. Students with six or more absences will receive a comment about attendance on their report card and an informational Chronic Absenteeism letter. We understand that children get ill, and if they are sick, please do not send them to school. However, we are obligated by Chancellor's Regulation to address absenteeism and encourage families to limit unnecessary absences, such as family vacations during the school year. Please be patient and kind when working with your child's teacher. Our teachers are working extremely hard to learn a new curriculum and maintain the high levels of instruction you are accustomed to at PS 23. Your patience and support are expected and appreciated.
Your NYC Schools Account (NYCSA) is your key to staying connected and tracking your childβs progress throughout their public school journey with the NYC Department of Education. With an NYC Schools Account, you can:
- Apply to schools and programs.
- Track your childβs progress from Pre-K through high school graduation.
- Access exclusive digital content for NYC families.
- Receive updates via text messages or email about school closures, emergencies, and upcoming events.
- Monitor grades, test scores, attendance, and more.
Opening an NYC Schools Account is the first step toward becoming more involved in your studentβs education and ensuring you stay informed every step of the way. If you need help setting up or accessing your account, please reach out to our Parent Coordinator, Sharon Fink, at (718) 351-1155 or via email at sfink7@schools.nyc.gov. She will be happy to assist you!
We are proud to have such a supportive and engaged community at PS 23. Thank you for all that you do to support your childβs education and well-being. Together, we can continue to build a bright future for every student.

Emergency Drills Letter
Dear Eagle Community,
During the days of December 2nd-December 20th, our school will continue to conduct emergency drills to prepare students for potential emergency situations. These drills will focus on the General Response Protocols (GRP) for a Soft Lockdown and an Evacuation. Please use the GRP Summary Guide to discuss these upcoming drills with your child in advance.
Please feel free to contact Parent Coordinator Sharon Fink at (719)351-1155 if you have any questions.
Family Handbook, & School Traffic
Your child has brought home a copy of our Family Handbook, which is linked here for your convenience. This handbook is designed to provide clarity on our policies and expectations, helping you stay positively involved in both our school community and your child's education. We've simplified the process this year by consolidating all necessary parent sign-offs onto two pages at the end of the handbook. Please complete the last page sign-off form (front and back) and return it to your childβs teacher as soon as possible.
Please avoid picking up your child(ren) between 1:45 p.m. and dismissal time unless it is an emergency. If you need to pick up your child(ren) early for a non-emergency reason, we kindly ask that you do so before 1:45 p.m.
A quick reminder about traffic safety: If you park illegally or don't follow traffic regulations around our school, the NYPD may issue tickets without warning. For the safety of all our students and families, please be patient and kind, avoid parking illegally, follow traffic laws, and refrain from cutting off other cars in the Morning Stop & Drop Lane. Please do not park on either side of Natick Street during morning arrival. Natick Street is designated for Stop & Drop only.
Weβve noticed that during the first two days, a few parents have been double parking or blocking our neighbors' driveways to walk their children through traffic. This behavior creates dangerous conditions. For your safety and your child's safety, please refrain from doing this.
There has been no changes to our dismissal locations for this school year. For your convenience, below our Promises and Priorities we have included a picture showing where our dismissal locations are for the 2024-2025 school year.
