Carly Hardie, Class of '24
- Carly is most excellent! She really works for the group, whether in class, in a school group, or on the field. We are lucky to have such a warm-hearted and smart leader around us.--LK

- Carly is a brilliant, kind person with a strong work ethic. I am continually impressed by her contributions in class and on the field or court.--Duprey

- Carly is a leader in class and is always willing to engage in the activities and help out those around her to have a deeper understanding. --Trisel
- I really appreciate Carly's positive energy on the daily, as well as her sense of humor. Carly knows when to be focused and working and when it's okay to be silly, which can be a fine line. Carly is a determined student and very focused on her academics. She exhibits many leadership qualities in the classroom and I really enjoy having her in class! --Wise
Beck Knight, Class of '24
- Beck is such a calming presence. They care deeply about others and are reflective and deeply thoughtful. I wish I had Beck in class this year!--LK

- Whether it is their insightful comments on discussions that spurn new talks, or the kindness they display to the people around them, Beck consistently brings joy and wisdom to the classroom day in and day out.--Z. Young
- Beck is a leader when it comes to participation in class, and goes deeper into the content, often connecting it to real life or previous knowledge. Beck is willing to learn and collaborates well with anyone in class. It is so great to have Beck in chemistry this year!--Trisel
- I appreciate Beck's kindness and energy. Beck says at the end of every class: "Tenga buen día (have a good day)." It may seem like a small gesture but it means a lot coming from a high school student. IYKYK. Additionally Beck is very bright and has a lot of good perspectives which help our class discussions around certain topics. Thank you, Beck! --Wise
Zane Davis, Class of '25
- While I'm not lucky enough to have Zane back in class this year, I respect his calming and warm presence in our school. He works hard and knows himself well.--LK
- Zane is trying very hard to be a positive leader. He did not always have the best examples from the classes before him but he is making an effort to learn how to be a positive leader who serves others and leads from the front. --Cease
- Zane is a model for respect and diligence in class. He strives to take ownership over his work and brings insightful thoughts to our discussions.--Z. Young
- Zane Is always willing to help out his teammates in class, and is a self starter, willing to engage and ask questions. --Trisel
River Denney, Class of '26
- River is thoughtful, kind, and playful. He works hard in class and often has a unique viewpoint to share with the class.--LK
- River, your surreal artwork continues to take viewers by surprise. I appreciate your questions and ideas in art and psychology!--A. Young
- River thinks deeply about the content in class, and puts in the effort. River offers help and asks to help out when he notices it might be needed. --Trisel
- As a member of the Cross Country team, River is a hard worker who contributes to our team. His welcoming spirit and inclusion of all people make him an integral part of our team. --Rondema
Luna Mackaness, Class of '26
- Luna Mackaness is always a pleasure to be around. She is a hard worker with a kind attitude. I don’t teach her in a formal class, but I wish I did!--Bassell
- Luna balances humor, intelligence, kindness, and hard work in our class. She advocates for herself respectfully. In group discussions, she often brings up observations that make the rest of us pause and think more deeply.--LK
- Luna, your conscientiousness is mighty. May it continue to bring you strength and conviction.--A. Young
- I had the pleasure of having Luna in my science class last year and I remember her willingness to go above and beyond in the science content by designing her own science project with her partner last year, and always engaging in furthering her own learning. --Trisel
- Luna is a prime example of what it means to be respectful and empathetic. She helps her peers with their work and asks insightful questions which pushes everyone in the class. Luna works hard in Spanish and it's evident in her increased proficiency in the language. Thanks for your energy, Luna! --Wise
Jaden Young, Class of '26
- Jaden Young is a thoughtful and inquisitive student. He asks the most interesting questions and shares the things he’s curious about. It’s always a brighter day when he is in class!--Bassell
- Jaden is a hard worker who thinks deeply about the world. I have been quite impressed with the scope of his knowledge about history and current events and his ability to apply them to literary discussions. Also, he is a kind and exuberant human.--LK
- Jaden, you are acutely aware of social dynamics around you. You have a clear voice and the confidence to use it. Your strength is contagious.--A. Young
- Jaden is a self starter and shows he is engaged by sharing ideas with the class during discussion and with the class activities. --Trisel
- Jaden is an extremely engaged and inquisitive student. Whenever giving instruction, Jaden is looking up and engaging with myself and the content. I can tell he cares about his education and learning, not just getting good grades. Additionally, Jaden has always been respectful toward me and his classmates. I think Jaden's knowledge and perspective of the world help to push his peers. Thanks Jaden! --Wise

Sydney White, Class of '27

Ash Butler, Class of '27
- Ash is great - works well with others, has a great attitude and frequently uses her Spanish in class.--McIntyre

Rachel Bassell, HS Math Teacher
Q: What’s your most-used productivity hack?
A: Scheduling time to do a task on my calendar. If I tell myself I have 1 hour to do the thing, the thing will be done in 1 hour.
Q: Do you have any pets?
A: Miss Beans - my cat
Q: What was your first paying job?
A: Office Max - so I could get a discount on the best pens
Q: Do you have any hidden talents or hobbies?
A: I have an 80% success rate at rock paper scissors.
Q: What’s the best book you’ve read recently?
A: The Book of Goose - it's about melodramatic French children being melodramatic, but in a funny way.
Homecoming Dance
All students in grades 9-12 are invited to the Homecoming dance after the football game on October 20. The theme is "Monster Mash." Costumes encouraged! Costumes must follow all school rules (including no weapons). Masks that cover half of the face (or less) are permitted; full face masks are not allowed. Questions about homecoming? Robotics competes in Wilsonville
Last weekend, October 7-8, the Corbett High School robotics team, Cardinal Dynamics, participated in two offseason events, both hosted by Wilsonville High School. The events were re-plays of last season's game "Charged Up."
Saturday was the Oregon Girls' Generation event. A competition focused on girls filling teams' driving and pit crew roles. Corbett was led by drive team captain Haylie Soles and robot driver Lizzie Loveland. Rounding out our roster for the day was Ava Detter, Olivia McGrew, Annie Loveland and Charlie Babjar. Theo Vandam and Tucker Rathjen filled support roles.
Sunday's event, FIRST Chance, was a chance for new team members to experience a competition event. In attendance was Jonah Dyk, Mead LaFambroise, Aiden Moore, Alex Carnie, Tucker Rathjen, Charlie Babjar, with Haylie Soles and Annie Loveland providing experienced support. Aiden Moore drove the robot and led the team to a third place finish in an alliance with the Grant High School team, The Generals, and Camas Washington's community team, Mean Machine.

School-Based Mental Health: Parent & Community Nights
Boys Volleyball Raises Money for Boosters
Corbett Volleyball hosted a boys volleyball clinic on Friday, September 29th and then the boys competed by grade level on Wednesday, October 4th. Senior boys team defeated the sophomores ,and juniors dropped early to a tough freshman team. Sophomores came back to win the consolation game between the juniors and sophomores. The final game between freshman and seniors was a tough one, but ultimately the seniors emerged victorious. "It was a fun night that we hope to build on in the future as a fundraising event for Corbett Athletics," said Athletic Director and Volleyball Coach Angela Davis.
Soccer (Girls)
Soccer suffered two tough 0-1 losses this week on the road, first in Trout Lake/Glenwood, and then at Oregon Episcopal. Come cheer on the Cardinals at their final home contest of the year at Red Wings Field on Monday against Riverdale.

Volleyball
Soccer (Boys)
Red Wing Field hosted the Cardinals' final regular season home game on Friday, October 13 against Oregon Episcopal School. The teams were evenly matched through the first hour of play, but Corbett gave up two goals in the final 20 minutes of play to lose 0-2.

Football
The Cardinals travelled to the coast to play at Neah-Kah-Nie on Friday, October 13. On offense, Zane Davis, Turner Van Hee and Alex Kinnear ran the ball hard. On defense, Cade Holwege recovered a fumble, and Mac Garrett, Armin Mehanovic, and Gunner Fullerton had good games as well. The Cardinals were defeated by the Pirates, 0-26. Support the Cardinals in their last home game of the season at Red Wings Field on Friday, October 20 for Homecoming.

Cross Country
Cross country competed twice this week. On Wednesday, the team traveled to Estacada. According to Coach Rondema, “Our Corbett runners collectively and individually displayed the Passion, the Purpose and the Perseverance that we value as a team. I am so proud of them.” Ellie Dodson set a Personal Record by over 4 minutes. Jesse Gomez and Anna Rondema set Personal Records by over 3 minutes. Asher Reymond set a 2-minute Personal Record. Zevi Gross PR’d by over a minute. Enrique Aguiluz recovered from multiple bee stings to set a huge PR. Aiden Harlow, Cyrus Kurkinen, Ethan Pinedo, Logan Matias, Flynn Parrish, Tucker Rathjen and Jack Kirnan set new PR’s.
On Saturday the team competed in the first annual Babson Invitational at Barlow High School. “I was impressed with the effort and enthusiasm of our runners,” said Coach Rondema. Logan Matias placed 6th overall in the men’s race, overtaking two runners in the last 800 meters. Aiden and Jesse set Personal Records, both for the second time this week.
Zevi passed the Corbett Baton to Willem Glaudemans. Zevi mentioned how Willem pushes himself and others. Zevi specifically said that he runs faster when he sees Willem’s example. Zevi also pointed out the courage it takes to join a team halfway through the season in a new country.
