Swansboro High School
Weekly Updates - January 5, 2025
Happy New Year Pirates,
We hope you have enjoyed your holidays and that students are excited to return to school tomorrow. We will hit the ground running with just a few instructional days before fall semester exams. Students will take part in an exam plans workshop during homeroom on Monday to learn about their personalized exam schedule. Please review this schedule with students on Monday evening to ensure students understand the dates/times of their exams. Parents and students should also remember that absences on exam days count as a full day.
Congratulations to our varsity men's basketball team who dominated the Onslow County Classic Tournament and brought home the fourth straight championship title. Congratulations to Tayvion Tangiora for being the tournament MVP and Jermaine Cunningham and Jonah Holt for being named All Tournament players. Congratulations to lady wrestlers who brought home the championship at the Swansboro Holiday tournament on Saturday. First place champions included Marielle Hirkala, Maggie Milberry, and Emma Boychuck. In swim, both the ladies and men placed second in their meet on Saturday. Daniel Prane placed first in the 500 free. Congratulations to Austin Eckert for being named the All-American Speedway Rookie of the Year.
This week in athletics will include track at Croatan and wrestling at West Carteret on Wednesday. Basketball will host Richlands on Friday. Ladies wrestling will compete on Friday and men's wrestling on Saturday at the Onslow County Cup at Richlands. Swim will compete at ECU on Saturday.
The last day to purchase a senior ad for the yearbook is Saturday, January 18, 2025. This is an opportunity to recognize seniors for their accomplishments. The link is available on the school website.
Students who exceeded 10 days of absences in the fall semester were mailed attendance waiver applications on Tuesday. These are due back by Friday, January 10, 2025. The attendance waiver board will meet the week of January 13, 2025, to review applications and will decide if absences were the result of extenuating circumstances as outlined in the Onslow County Schools Board of Education policy governing student attendance. Parents will be notified via mail of those determinations.
Today is a great opportunity for parents to review grades and attendance with students as we prepare for exams next week. Exams count for 25% of student’s final grades. Help your student do their best by ensuring they study, get plenty of rest, eat a healthy breakfast and arrive at school each day on time for their exams.
