Senior parents: Before your child walks out the doors of MHS for the last time, we have a few senior tasks that he/she MUST complete for us. These tasks help us gather data to celebrate students at the Senior Assembly and at graduation. More importantly, your child will indicate on the SchooLinks platform where to send his/her final high school transcript. If he/she does not complete these items, his/her final transcript WILL NOT BE SENT, and your child won't be able to register for classes in college. Here is a link to a SMORE that outlines these tasks for your student in detail and provides links to all steps. Your child was emailed this same information on Wednesday, April 24 and again on May 2, but he/she may need your help completing a couple of the tasks. Questions? Please reach out to your child's school counselor.
Does your student have an interest in health-related issues? The student leadership team of the Blount County Student Wellness Coalition is made up of students from Alcoa High School, Heritage High School, Maryville High School, William Blount High School, and Eagleton College & Career Academy that meet to discuss health-related issues relevant to members and their peers, to prioritize those issues, and to develop effective strategies to address them in ways that resonate with students in Blount County. From the students who apply, a group of adult sponsors will select 3-5 students from each school as our county-wide leaders who will be asked to work with other students at their respective schools to garner support for initiatives. If this leadership opportunity fits your child, encourage him/her to fill out this form fully to apply to be a part of the student leadership of this coalition. At the bottom of this application, you can see the base time commitment to be a part of this leadership team.
The Ride and Decide program aims to pair high school students with trade industry contractors for summer employment, providing them with hands-on experience while assisting in paid work functions. Its mission includes encouraging students to consider trade careers post-graduation, educating them and their parents about the benefits of working in the industry, and establishing a dedicated group to ensure the program's success and longevity. This program will take place in June and July of the summer. Eligible students must be at least 16 years old, have completed their sophomore year of high school, maintain a C average with excellent attendance, have reliable transportation, be recommended by an educator or administrator, obtain parental permission, and adhere strictly to attendance and employment regulations. If you or your student are interested in learning more about this program, please email Wes Lambert at wes.lambert@maryville-schools.org.

Student Check Out Procedures
Check-outs should be held to a minimum and are limited to the following:
Emergency - Decision to be made by the principal or assistant principals.
Prior arrangement - If a written request is received by officials in the student services office prior to the beginning of the school day, the student will be dismissed at the requested time. The checkout note must include the student’s full name, date, time of dismissal, phone number where parent/guardian can be reached for verification, and signature of the parent/guardian.
- The parent/guardian comes to the main entrance office to sign the student out.
Students who become sick during the school day must report to the assistant principal’s office/school nurse before they call home. The assistant principal’s office will assist the student and permit the student to call home. The student will remain in the assistant principal’s office or with the school nurse until he/she receives permission to go home or until he/she is picked up by a parent/guardian.
Students are allowed to check out during third block only for medical or legal purposes, and proper documentation must be provided. Students are not allowed to check out to retrieve items needed for school. Leaving school without permission will result in disciplinary action.
Students checking out of school on an altered schedule day will receive an unexcused absence unless the school is provided the appropriate legal or medical documentation.
