Los Pen ESS Staff would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our new and returning students! We had a very successful summer filled with fun field trips, Kona Ice, special event days, guest speakers, and a lot more! I would like to say a heartfelt thank you to my wonderful Los Pen Staff for all of their great work and high energy that was maintained throughout the summer. We couldn’t have done it without all of you. YOU ARE ALL TRULY AWESOME!
Important Information
- CLASS WORK: Grades 1 – 5 have a required work period in ESS during the school year. The work period allowed for each grade level is sufficient for the children to finish most, if not all, of their class work while in ESS. If your child does not have any class work, or finishes early, they have the choice of reading a book (one of ours or one from home), write a story, or worksheets. We assist the children with their work if asked, but we leave the signing off on their planner to the parents. This way the parents can keep up on their child’s progress. The teachers have given ESS permission to sign off on reading logs, if your child/ren reads during ESS time.
- CUBBIES: This year cubbies will only be assigned to TK and kindergarteners starting next week. We are not assigning cubbies for any other grade. With that being said, please make sure your child clears out all of their belongings at the end of each day.
- SIGNING IN: Your child/ren MUST BE signed in if they come to ESS before school—NO CURB SIDE DROP OFFS, unless it is after 8:15 a.m.
- ESS SNACKS: ESS does not purchase alternate snacks for children with specific dietary needs, but parents are welcome to send alternate snacks with their children.
- CELL PHONES: ESS is a cell phone-free zone. Please ensure that all phone conversations are conducted outside the ESS building. It is important for parents to be available during this time so staff can communicate any celebrations, concerns, or incidents that occurred during the day. Additionally, ESS follows the same rules for cell phone usage as the school site, so students should not use cell phones or smart watches while at ESS.
- CHECKING IN: Our top priority is to check in all students and make sure that they are all accounted for. For grades 1st - 5th, they will all check in at the lunch tables directly after school. We expect your child/ren to come and check-in immediately after school. We kindly ask that you wait until 3:20pm to pick up your child/ren. This will give us time to sign in and account for all of the ESS students and have them sync to the parent iPad. If your child/ren WILL NOT be coming to ESS, please email both Michelle and Marina to let us know your child will be absent from ESS AND email your child's classroom teacher to let them know to walk your child to the front of the school.
- SIGNING OUT: As per the ESS agreement, all students must be signed out by an authorized person. An I.D. is required at pick up until we get to know you. This is done for the safety of your child. We also want to make sure that you are signing out your child/ren at the end of the day. If you do not complete this step, the system shows that your child/ren is still with us at ESS. The groups will be utilizing different parts of the campus for various activities. When picking up your child, please be patient. They are coming from different areas within the school.
- LATE FEES: This time will be assessed when your child remains pass the 6 o'clock closing time. Failure to adhere to the program operating hours may lead to program dismissal. This is stated in the program policies, which you have all received. A late pickup fee will be charged as follows:
- 0 to 10 minutes late is $1.00 per minute per child
- 11 to 30 minutes late is $30.00 per child
- 31 to 60 minutes late is $60.00 per child
- ILLNESS: If your child is too ill to attend school, then they are too ill to attend ESS. If your child becomes ill while at ESS, they will need to be picked up IMMEDIATELY. Please make sure you let us know if any of your emergency telephone numbers have changed. Keeping your child’s information updated makes it easy to contact you in the event of an emergency.
