THE COYOTE DEN
OCTOBER 2024
Hello, Hassayampa Families!
Dear Hassayampa Families,
It's hard to believe we're already nearing the end of the first quarter! Though it feels like school just began, we've accomplished so much already. During my classroom visits, I’ve been truly impressed by the quality of instruction and the enthusiasm of our Hassayampa students. I’ve witnessed high levels of student participation, and the energy in our classrooms makes learning both engaging and exciting!
Throughout the school year, we will continue to create opportunities for teachers and parents to collaborate, ensuring the best educational experiences for our students. Be sure to mark your calendars for Parent-Teacher Conferences, scheduled after Fall Break. These conferences will provide you with important grade-level goals and report card information. Our aim is to build strong partnerships with parents so that expectations are clear, and we can work together to help our students reach their full potential. Keep an eye out for your conference invitations!
Please check your email for a message from Dr. Remondini, WUSD Superintendent. She has shared our annual Parent Survey. I have also included the link in this newsletter as well. This information is important to Hassayampa as it informs us on what is going well and what we need to continue to improve. I thank you for taking a few minutes today to complete this brief survey!
October is shaping up to be a busy month! Please take a close look at the calendar of events and add important dates to your family calendar. I look forward to seeing you in October!
We are well on our way to an excellent school year, and I appreciate your ongoing support.
Warm regards,
Carissa Hershkowitz
Principal, Hassayampa Elementary

MATH AND READING NOOK
READING
The most important action you can take as a parent to promote reading in your family is to ensure that reading is occurring daily in your home. Reading to your child, listening to your child read, or establishing an evening routine in which your child reads to independently are easy ways to make reading a regular family activity. If you are looking for additional ideas, please reach out to your child's teacher or to Mrs. Rutherford, our school's reading specialist.
MATH
Knowing basic math facts is a skill that supports students for a lifetime! In class, students will practice these skills daily. Practicing at home is considered part of your child's daily homework assignment!
PBIS: LET'S HOWL!
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
HONOR * OWNERSHIP * WORK * LEADERSHIP
We practice the Coyote Way at Hassayampa. Our Hassayampa students HOWL which stands for Honor, Ownership, Work, and Leadership. All Hassayampa staff are teaching and reinforcing these expectations daily throughout the school year. Students who are caught meeting expectations will earn tickets which can be redeemed for special rewards. We will have a special shout out to students during morning announcements and during our quarterly assemblies.
Each month, families have an opportunity to recognize their children for demonstrating The Coyote Way at home. Whether it is playing nicely with a sibling or helping with chores or completing homework, YOU can celebrate your child! Please check your child's backpack for a letter regarding home participation of The Coyote Way! If you find the old ones in there, you can fill them out as well. Once you fill out the HOWL'er, have your child return it to school. We will post in on the grade level character board. You an check it out when you come for our next assembly.
When we return from break, we will do a comprehensive review of school expectations.
ASK YOUR CHILD ABOUT HOWL TICKETS? HAVE THEY EARNED A TICKET? IF SO, WHY?
HERE COMES THE BUS
