A Message from the Captain
Ahoy!
I had a great time at our Back to School Picnic last night! Thank you to all of the families that were able to celebrate the start of the year together. Another huge shout out this week to our amazing APT for hosting this great event!!!
This week was a lot of fun and productive. All of our students in grades 1-4 completed FastBridge screening and the Universal Screener for Number Sense. This will help us provide appropriate instructional support for our students.
This week’s learning highlight is from first grade. Our students created number racks up to 20 and practiced grouping by 5s and 10s. The students had so much fun and are growing their number sense!
Lastly, Picture Day is FRIDAY! 📸 📸 📸 I’ll send a few reminders next week, as well.
"Seas" the day, Explorers!
Sincerely,
Captain Eigenrauch

Dropping Off Student Items
Lockdown Drill - October 1st
Please read the following letter with information about our upcoming lockdown drill. Prior to the practice drill on October 1st, we will be discussing the drill procedures with students on September 24th. September 24th is just a conversation. Please know that we do this in a very age-appropriate and sensitive way. We do NOT mention active shooters. Please think of this as an equivalent as practicing a fire drill or tornado drill in order to be prepared in the event of an emergency. Schools must provide sufficient information and notification to parents and guardians in advance of any walk-through lockdown drill (October 1st) that involves the participation of students. Schools must also provide parents and guardians an opportunity to exempt their child for any reason from participating in the walk-through lockdown drill. If you wish your student to be exempted from the law enforcement lockdown drill, please contact me, Megan Eigenrauch to let me know.
(Rerun) Picture Day
(Rerun) Orchestra Lessons
Orchestra lessons will start September 16. There is instrument pick up after school at DPM on September 9. Parents have been sent emails with information regarding pick up. If you didn’t receive the information please reach out to Diane Rener at drener@lfschools.net.
(Rerun) Eagle Excellence Program
We are continuing with the positive behavior system that was already in place at Everett by continuing to recognize students for meeting our SOAR expectations. However, there will be some minor changes to the program.
For our Kindergarten through 2nd grade students, the sticker charts will remain the same. The students can earn stickers throughout their day and use those completed charts to “purchase” rewards. The only thing changing for our K-2 learners is the opportunity to also purchase experiences with their stickers.
To make the program more age appropriate for our 3rd and 4th grade students, both student rewards and prizes have been tweaked. The request was for students in grades 3 and 4 to no longer earn stickers but something more “cool!” We get it! Students in Grades 3 and 4 will now earn Eagle Cards which are worth 10 points each. Students can redeem those for prizes. The changes to the prizes for 3rd and 4th grade include incorporating both experiences and some raffle items. They will also have the opportunity to buy smaller prizes, as well.
All prizes selected will be consistent for the year and all students will have an equal chance at purchasing those items. This consistency should allow for all of our learners to set a goal and work hard until they achieve it without the fear of not earning enough “in time.”
We have an Amazon Wish List of prizes that we’d love support fulfilling. This new program is GREAT for kids but more expensive due to the need for a larger availability of the same physical prizes for each student. If you’re interested in supporting the program, please see our Amazon Wish List. It will be updated periodically as we continue to reward students with "shopping days!"
District 67 News
Introducing Typetastic School Edition for Keyboarding
We're excited to introduce Typetastic School Edition as our new keyboarding instruction resource that’s available in Clever for students! Initial instruction will begin during library sessions for grades 2-4 and later be a resource for classrooms or home.
Strong keyboarding skills are crucial for academic success, and this program will help students develop speed, accuracy, and confidence. We look forward to seeing our students grow as capable digital learners through this valuable addition to our library program!
Curriculum Coordinating Committee Parent/Guardian Representative Needed
Dear District 67 Parents and Guardians:
My name is Vail Kieser, and I’m thrilled to be the Director of Teaching and Learning in Lake Forest District 67. Parents and guardians bring invaluable perspectives to our District 67 work. One of the ways we seek parent and guardian involvement is through the Curriculum Coordinating Committee (CCC). It is composed of teachers, administrators, parents, and guardians, bringing to bear multiple perspectives on the work we do for our students.
Considering plans for curriculum review/evaluation
Receiving input regarding curriculum related matters
Serving in an advisory capacity to the administration and Board of Education
The District is seeking to fill a parent/guardian vacancy for a three-year CCC term. Appointments to the committee will be based upon interest and qualifications.
Those interested in serving on the CCC should apply using this application form below.
Qualifications include the ability to analyze and discuss curricular issues, to participate in collective decision-making, and to communicate effectively. Applications are due by 8:00 am on Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
Meetings will be held monthly with the first meeting on Monday, October 7, at 4:00 pm. Meetings may be held in person or virtually, depending on the time and purpose.
Applicants will be informed of membership by Friday, September 27, 2024. Thank you for considering this opportunity!
Vail Kieser
Director of Teaching & Learning
