Kay's Creek Updates
Kay's Creek Families,
Happy New Year! I hope you all had a wonderful and blessed winter break. We look forward to welcoming our students back Tuesday!
I'd like to remind everyone to plan for the time it takes to safely deliver students to and from school each day and to ask that we use the front drop off lane as designated. Please remind students who walk or bike to school to stay on the sidewalks, respectfully follow all crossing rules, and to be extra aware of cars that might not be following our requests.
Here's wishing everyone a strong and cheerful start to term 3!

Counselor's Corner
Hello Kay's Creek! I hope you enjoyed the holidays and your New Year's is off to a great start! This week I want to talk about the power of habits. For many of us, the new year is a time to rethink our direction and establish new goals. Goals and habits go hand in hand. Goals can establish the vision for where we want to go, while habits help shape the behaviors needed to get there. One of the challenges for biting off big goals at the beginning of the year is they often require lots of decision making and willpower, something that can often fall by the wayside after a long day. Small changes each day enacted through daily habits begin to compound, building our confidence, self-esteem and allowing us to see significant growth over time. Small habits are also more sustainable since they're easier to stick with versus big, overwhelming changes. For example, waking up 10 minutes earlier to read is easier to accomplish then reading a book every week or month. It's also easier to maintain and build upon it after just a few weeks. When it comes to starting a new habit, starting small, tracking our progress and celebrating our success can make a big difference. Habits can be powerful building blocks in which we form our lives. They shape our behavior, influence our mindset, and determine our success and well-being. Utilizing the power of good habits, allows us to create positive changes in our lives.

Policies & Procedures
- Birthdays are recognized at school by classroom teachers, Principal Bukey, and the PTA. We will not be allowing treats to be brought in from home for student birthdays. This is for the safety of the many students we have with special dietary needs. Instead, we invite you to purchase a book in your child's name for the school library. More information here. Thank you for your understanding.
- Toys should not be brought to school unless a teacher gives permission for a specific purpose. Resin miniatures, such as the little ducks that are so popular, fit under this policy.
- The 2024-25 Belonging & Safe Schools Presentation has been presented to all 1st-6th grade students, with the exception of a few students who were absent. We invite parents of kinder students to view it and determine how you would like to share it with your child.
- Cell phones and smart watches must be kept in students' backpacks, powered down, and not used during school hours for communication. However, if a child needs to contact a parent, they are always able to use a school phone, with teacher permission. Students who require use of either one for a medical or 504 plan are an exception.
- Parents sometimes bring a special lunch in for their child. We ask that the lunches are kept to single servings so that students are not sharing outside food with tablemates.
