Principal's Message
Hello Dewey Families:
The second trimester has come to an end, and we’re officially kicking off the final stretch of the school year! Report cards were shared during parent conferences or sent home with your child, and all marks are now available to view in Q.
This last part of the year flies by, packed with exciting activities and valuable learning experiences. State testing begins in April for our 3rd–6th graders, and we have many upcoming events, including field trips, Family Lunch, and our Spring Family Night at the end of May. Our 6th graders just left for camp, and our 5th graders will be heading out in April!
Thank you for your continued partnership—we appreciate your support as we make the most of these final months together!
Warmest regards,
Sabrina Parsley, principal

State Testing
California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) Summative Assessments and California Science Test (CAST) 2024-2025
Each spring, students participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP).
Depending on your child’s grade, they will take the following tests:
● Students in Grades 3 – 8 and 11 will take English language arts/literacy (ELA) and mathematics tests
● Students in Grades 5, 8, and 11 will take a science test (grade 12 will take if they have not taken it in HS yet).
The computer-based tests measure what your child knows and can do.

Lice can attach to the hair of anyone's head- it doesn't matter if the hair is clean or dirty. Please check your students using the following guidelines:

CA Physical Fitness Test
In February and March our students in grades 5-6 will participate in the California Physical Fitness Test (PFT). The FITNESSGRAM is the required annual PFT for students in grades five, seven, and nine in California public schools. (6th and 8th grade students are tested each year to support improvement and transition for the next year.) This health-related fitness test, developed by The Cooper Institute, is intended to help students acquire lasting habits of regular physical activity.
The FITNESSGRAM includes tests for five areas of fitness: Aerobic Capacity, Abdominal Strength and Endurance, Trunk Extensor Strength and Flexibility, Upper Body Strength and Endurance, and Flexibility.
On February 7th, all fifth and sixth grade students received a 2-page informational packet on the test. Additional copies will be in the hanging folder inside the office.
The Harry Dewey School Library is a fantastic hub for knowledge and exploration! We are so excited to see our student actively using the online catalog to research topics they love. Have you checked it out together yet? Explore here: https://dewey.sanjuan.edu/academics/library
