Late November News
Principal's Update
Dear NBC Parents,
As we approach Thanksgiving, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for our wonderful school community. This season reminds us of the importance of coming together, sharing kindness, and reflecting on the many blessings in our lives.
I am thankful for our dedicated teachers and staff who go above and beyond to nurture and inspire our students every day. I am equally grateful for you—our parents and guardians—who partner with us to ensure the success and well-being of your children. Most of all, I am inspired by the incredible students who fill our school with curiosity, creativity, and joy.
During this holiday, I encourage everyone to take time to rest, connect with loved ones, and celebrate the spirit of gratitude. Whether you're traveling or staying close to home, I hope your Thanksgiving is filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished moments.
On behalf of NBC, thank you for being such an essential part of our community. We look forward to continuing our journey together after the break.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
As always, if you have questions or concerns please feel free to contact me at 231-894-5617 or by email at perreaultj@mapsk12.org

Upcoming Important Dates
No school 11/27-11/29 for Thanksgiving Break
A friendly reminder from the NBC office staff
If you plan on picking your student up early for some reason and know ahead of time, please send your student with a note that morning and we will get them a pass to leave class and meet you at the entrance of the school for their pick up time. This decreases wait time and class interruptions.
PLEASE if your student is not going to be in school or is sick, call the office and let us know why they will not be in school. This way we can mark them with an excused absence instead of an unexcused absence. According to the NBC Middle School Handbook, parents must provide an explanation for their child's absence by no later than 10:00 am on the day of the absence or by the following day.
If we DO NOT answer the phone as we are busy with students or on another line, PLEASE leave a message for us, we will get it taken care of and/or call you back if need be as soon as we are available.
Thank you parents,
-Mrs. Halverson & Mrs. Kraus

The recipes were made with Michigan grown brassicas! The CTC students prepared and served NBC students and then collected votes on how the students liked the recipe. The two recipes were Rainbow Pasta Salad and a Cauli-Turnip Mash!
The 6-12 band Christmas Concert will be held on Sunday, December 15th at 7 pm in the High School Auditorium.
6th, 7th and 8th grade students will need to be in the MHS band room NO LATER than 6:30 pm that evening.
Concert Attire: Black pants/leggings/skirts/socks/shoes (no athletic pants). Students that have skirts that do not go BELOW the knees WHEN sitting, will be put in the back row to perform (UNLESS they are wearing leggings underneath their skirt). While you may look nice, it is uncomfortable as audience members. White top - Dress shirts/sweaters ( no t-shirts or sweatshirts with writing on them). Students can wear Christmas Ties, socks, hats, scarves etc. No decorated Christmas Sweaters.
High School Band will need to be at MHS by 6:40 - you will watch the concert before you perform.
Concert Attire: Black button down dress shirt and Blue Tie (both ordered by the School). Black - waist down. Dress Pants, Skirts with Leggings. Black or Christmas socks. WHITE SOCKS will result in losing 50% of your grade for the concert.
Career Exploration & Xello
Over the past two weeks, the 6th and 7th grade students have been completing career exploration activities and lessons. Xello is an online tool that students can access to explore hundreds of careers personalized to their own interests and skills, including high paying, high demand jobs (check out the Michigan Hot Jobs lists!). The work students are completing helps them build their Educational Development Plan (EDP) and their Talent Portfolio; both are progressive works required by the State of Michigan to help students plan for their future. It has been fun watching students as they explore the many career opportunities that are available to them! Be sure to ask your student about some of their career interests. Coming soon--you will receive an email invite to Xello Family so that you can view your student's progression.
Kickstart to Careers
Attention 6th grade parents! Did you know that a deposit only account, with a $50 donation, was opened when your child entered kindergarten? Kickstart to Career is an exciting initiative supported by the Community Foundation of Muskegon County that helps students learn about financial literacy while encouraging them to plan for their post high school goals. Sixth grade students can earn up to an additional $10 this year simply by completing career exploration activities in Xello. On deposit days (about twice per year), students and families can contribute to their savings account if they wish to. Deposits can also be made at any time at one of the partnering financial institutions. Upon graduation, your student will have access to their funds to help cover the costs of college, vocational training, or other educational pursuits. For more information visit: www.ktcmuskegon.org.

Upcoming Community Events:
Hike the Lights @ Muskegon Luge
Hike the Lights is a free event, where we turn our ski trail lights on from sunset until 10pm, every night of the week. At Muskegon Luge we have over 4 miles of lighted ski/hiking trails ranging from beginner, accessible trails to intermediate with large hills. A headlamp might be helpful on longer, dark sections of trails.
Dogs are welcome too! We love your four legged friends, and just ask that you keep them on a 6 ft. lead and pick up after them.
Hike the Lights begins in October and lasts until the first snowfall when trails are groomed for cross country skiing.
Christmas Parade
Santa's House
Santa House hours are posted on the City sign and the City of Montague Facebook page each year. For more information, contact the Montague Police Department at 231-893-0810.
Bring the kids down and take their picture while they sit on Old St. Nick’s lap! Kids that want to send a letter to Santa can drop it in the mailbox slot on Santa’s House, or mail it to:
