I am pleased to share that all our students can receive free school meals for the 2024-2025 school year because Guilford Elementary has qualified for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) program.

The CEP is a meal service option created by the Healthy, HungerFree Kids Act to allow schools with a high percentage of eligible children to serve free meals to all enrolled students for up to four consecutive school years, provided the school meets the participation requirements.

This is a great way to ensure our students have access to the nutrition they need every day to be prepared and engaged to learn. Please share this information with your child and our school staff will remind them that free meals are available.

Please join the PTA it is only $5 a membership this year.

We are looking for our Sunshine families. Adopt a month and bring in a special surprise for the Staff (in the staff lounge). We usually do it the 2nd to last week of the month. It can be food, desserts, drinks, candies, cards, notes or anything you want to bring some sunshine to their day.

Lastly we are bringing back Grade Level Coordinators. This is an individual that would like to assist a certain grade level Para with the needs of that grade. It could mean coming in once a week to assist the Para or taking things home to cut and assemble. Reach out to your grade level Para and set up a time to meet and arrange duties to assist.

HCPSS parents, guardians and family members are invited to join HCPSS Superintendent Willliam J. Barnes, school system leaders and community organizations for this valuable information night to prepare for a successful academic year. The event will also feature various workshop topics which provide access to resources and support.

The 2024-2025 Parent Academy Kick-Off will be held Wednesday, Sept. 25 from 6-8:30 p.m at Wilde Lake High School, 5460 Trumpeter Road, Columbia. Dinner will be provided from 5:15-6 p.m. Registration is encouraged.

Each year, the Howard County Public School System partners with the Maryland Partnership for Prevention to bring flu immunizations into our schools for students. This year, they will also be offering the latest Covid vaccine if it is available at the time of the clinics. The clinic at Guilford Elementary School will be held on October 29th, 2024 during school hours. If you would like your child to be vaccinated against the flu and/or Covid at this clinic, please register at this link: Guilford Elementary Flu/Covid Vaccine Clinic You are not required to provide your child’s insurance information.

If you have any concerns about the new Covid vaccine, you are advised to speak with your child’s pediatrician. All in-school clinics will be closed to registration one week before the clinic date to allow our health room staff time to review and prepare the consents and make sure enough vaccine is ordered. If you wish to cancel your child’s appointment after then, please call the nurse at your child’s school. If you have any questions, please call your school’s health room at 410-880-5934.

I’m Betania Adane, a senior at Atholton High School, and I am excited to share information about a virtual course for those from the elementary school to middle school level on behalf of STEM4Impact, a Howard County-based organization that exposes students to STEM concepts. This is a great opportunity for students to get exposure to STEM ideas and get them prepared for the future while also having fun through learning.

Our courses will be running from September 28 - October 12 and any students who are interested in the program can register using our Google form registration.

Introduction to Healthcare: In this course, students will discover the basics of healthcare, including an overview of basic cell biology, human anatomy, and body systems. Interactive meetings will introduce the roles of healthcare professionals and promote an appreciation for healthcare. This course is open for students in grades 3-8.
