Principal's Message
Greeting families,
My name is Roberto Gonzalez and I will be serving you as the principal of the Medical District PK-8 Biomedical school. As you may know the school is a partnership between Dallas ISD and UT Southwestern; the school will offer students a program focused on biomedical sciences, which will stimulate curiosity about the wonders of science and also provide children a foundation for future discovery.
I have served Dallas ISD families since 2006. Born and raised in Colombia, I graduated from the Universidad de Cartagena and my first career was as a medical doctor in underserved communities; I served the public and private health system in Colombia. Upon my arrival in the United States, my lineage of educators encouraged me to try education and I was hooked; I started as an early childhood educator at a Dallas ISD Elementary school.
I believe in the power of relationships, not only with students and staff, but also with the community at large.
I have been happily married to Yamila Musa for thirteen years and we have three children, ages 12, 6, and 3.
- There is one program that has been selected as the sole finalist. The program will provide before and after-school care starting in August. Once Dallas ISD completes the approval process, we will share the information with all the parents.
Could you provide information about teachers hired for the school?
- We are in the process of interviewing candidates for the school. All teachers will have specific characteristics based on the teacher profile created for the school. Once the hiring process finishes, we will share the teacher information with parents. We will also have a meet the teacher day before the end of this school year. We are identifying possible places to host this event as the building will be ready in July.
- We offer gifted and talented learning opportunities for all students that qualify. The gifted and talented teacher will share the qualification process at the beginning of the school year.
What will be the student/ teacher ratio?
- PK3: 18 students with 1 teacher and 1 teacher assistant.
- PK4: 22 students with 1 teacher and 1 teacher assistant
- Kinder: each class will have 22 students with 1 teacher
- First Grade: each class will have 22 students with 1 teacher
Is there a playground?
- We will have one playground in during the first two years and one more will be added when the new building is completed.
What special classes will you offer?
- Physical education (Gym)
- Music
- Art
- STEM
Will you have recess?
- All elementary classes will have 30 minutes of daily recess.
Will you offer 2 --way dual language classes?
- Once the enrollment process is finish, we will know how many English learners we have and we may begin offering seats for native speakers that would like to be part of the program. We will share more information as soon as is available.
Will there be a PTA?
- Once the families enrolled their children, we will establish a PTA. Additionally, we will also establish a Site Based Decision Making (SBDM) committee.
