August 2023 Edition 11
SUMMER EDITION
What is the Howling Herald?
The Howling Herald is Whitlow's school newsletter distributed electronically once a month. It typically contains news, updates, announcements, and information about events, activities, achievements, policies, and other relevant happenings within the Wolfpack. Life is busy, but we want to make sure you know what's happening. This serves to keep you informed and engaged with what's happening in the school.
You can expect the first edition for the 24-25 school year in August.

Encourage Summer Reading with Forsyth County's Library
The Forsyth County library is committed to helping Forsyth County students avoid learning loss over the summer, and the best way to do that is to make reading over the summer as fun and enjoyable as possible. Summer Reading is also a great time for adults to model good reading habits simply by participating.
The library's summer reading will run through July 31st.
For more information, visit their website at www.forsythpl.org. You can also stay connected with the library through Facebook and Instagram @focolibrary.

Local School Council (LSC)
Local School Councils (LSC) were established as a result of Georgia's A+ Education Reform Act of 2000. This legislation required that all schools in Georgia establish Local Councils. The purpose of the LSC is to bring communities and schools closer together in a spirit of cooperation to solve difficult educational problems, improve academic achievement, provide support for teachers and administrators and bring parents into the school-based decision-making process.
The LSC is elected and is composed of teachers, parents and business representatives. Parent or guardian members make up the majority of the school council and at least two of the parents or guardians must be businesspersons.
If you are interested in serving on Whitlow Elementary's 2024-2025 Local School Council as a parent partner member, business partner member, or if you would like to nominate someone, please complete the nomination form here by Monday, July 8, 2024. Candidates will be made public on July 16th. A vote will be taken on July 30th at Whitlow Elementary School.

Partners in Education
Do you know a business or organization that would like to partner with Whitlow?
Whitlow boasts a diverse group of learners taking pride in community, innovation, and collaboration. We passionately strive toward our mission statement to “Challenge, inspire, and act to make learning come alive!” In the past, you may have worked with our incredible PTA/PTO and within the last year, we have transitioned our Corporate Sponsors under the umbrella of Partners in Education, which is managed through the school administration. In addition to our longtime supporters, we are inviting new partners to join our Wolfpack and help us with our mission.
There are several ways that you can positively influence our school as a “Partner in Education,” such as:
- Donating products or services, including:
-Sponsoring a grade level field trip
-Providing opportunities for guest speakers or mystery readers
-Providing treats for staff recognition
-Hosting a Spirit Night or event designating a give back percentage to the school
-Donating raffle prizes for staff recognition
-Sponsoring a quarterly student recognition assembly
- Assisting the school in raising funds or making monetary donations that support school goals
