Hello Jefferson Leadership Academy (JLA) families and caregivers,

Welcome to the fourth week of school- September is flying by. This week is full of activity as we host flag football and volleyball games on Monday, welcome you to campus on Tuesday for Back to School Night, celebrate 99% student completion of i-Ready with a free dress on Wednesday, and celebrate 4th-Friday with a sports top dress day. This week's Jefferson Jewels has a lot of information, so please review it to prepare for the week ahead.

Students will participate in the Pulse survey in their elective classes on Wednesday. Please encourage your child to share their perspectives about their sense of identity, sense of belonging, and agency in this survey. This information will help inform our school goals related to culture and climate.

Here are a few highlights for this week at JLA:

Back To School Night: Tuesday 9/24 Minimum Day Schedule- 8:00-1:10 pm
Regular Day Schedule: Monday, Wednesday- Friday 8:00-2:40 pm
Gates Open: 7:25 am (Breakfast available)
Pulse Survey: Wednesday in elective classes
JLA 4th Friday- Spirit Day- Sports Teams: Students are encouraged to wear their favorite Sports team t-shirt and uniform to school this Friday, September 27.

Reminders

Cell Phones—Students should not have their phones out during school hours. Please help us by communicating through the main office rather than your child's cell phone.

Week At-Glance

Back To School Night- Tuesday September 24

Looking forward to seeing you this Tuesday, 9/24 at 5:30 for Back to School Night! Once you arrive, please go to your student's Period 1 class. Your JLA student will bring home a schedule with their teacher's names and room numbers on Monday afternoon. We will also have local resources and information booths in the quad for you to visit and enjoy as you are learning more about your student's classes! See you there!

Picking Up Students Early

When picking up your student before school dismissal, please plan to pick up your student before or after the lunch period. To support lunch supervision, all support staff are unavailable, and we will not be able to release students who are at lunch. Please plan ahead and pick up your student before or after lunch. This practice will begin on September 16, 2024.

Annual Verification- Please update your information

Each year, families are required to review their information in ParentVue as part of the Annual Verification process. This information allows JLA to have accurate contact information in case of an emergency, release students to authorized adults on the emergency contact list, and provide funding for programs like afterschool enrichment and parent workshops. We are at 83% completion for annual verification, and we need 100% to reach our goal. Please help us by updating your information in ParentVue using the QR code.

The Book Fair is Coming to JLA

1st Annual Latino Heritage Celebration

We are excited to invite you to the 1st Annual Latino Heritage Celebration on Saturday, September 28, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Cabrillo High School! This family-friendly event will feature student performances, community resources, music, food, and local vendors. It's a wonderful opportunity to celebrate Latino heritage, enjoy great entertainment, and connect with our community.
