A message from the head of school
Dear Horizon Leadership Academy Families,
It is with great excitement and gratitude that I introduce myself as the new head of school at Horizon Leadership Academy.
My name is Mr. Kaya, and I am honored to introduce myself as the new principal of Horizon Leadership Academy. My journey in education began in 2011 as a Math Teacher at one of the charter school systems. Over the years, I have taken on various campus leadership roles, including College Counselor, Dean of College Career, and Dean of Academics, before being promoted to Principal within the same school system. For the past three years, I have had the privilege of serving as Principal in Brownsville, Texas.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Math Education from 19 May University in Samsun, Turkey. To further my passion for educational leadership, I obtained my Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership from North American University in Houston. Understanding the vital role of guidance and support in shaping students' futures, I pursued an additional Master's degree in School Counseling from Angelo State University. This equipped me with the necessary skills to provide comprehensive academic and career counseling to the students under my care.
I am excited to bring my experience and dedication to Horizon Leadership Academy and work together to create an enriching and supportive environment for our students.
It is an honor to join this vibrant community dedicated to fostering academic excellence, personal growth, and a lifelong love of learning in our students.
We had an incredible week welcoming our teachers and staff back for professional development. We are thrilled for the 2024-2025 school year and can’t wait to see our students on Tuesday, August 13th for the first day of school.
From the moment I stepped onto campus, I was struck by the warmth and dedication of our staff, the enthusiasm and potential of our students, and the unwavering support of our families. These qualities create a strong foundation for our continued success, and I am eager to build upon them as we work together to achieve our shared goals.
As we embark on this journey together, I am committed to ensuring that every student feels valued, supported, and challenged to reach their full potential. Our dedicated teachers and staff are here to provide a nurturing and stimulating environment where each child can thrive. I encourage open communication and collaboration, and I look forward to partnering with you to create the best possible educational experience for our students.
This Saturday, August 10, I will be at the Open House. I would be glad to meet all of you. Your insights and feedback are invaluable as we strive to continually improve our school. Together, we will create a community where every student can achieve their dreams and become a confident, compassionate, and capable leader.
Thank you for welcoming me into the Horizon Leadership Academy family. I am excited about the new school year ahead.

Arrival & Dismissal
The safety and security of our Horizon Leadership Academy students is our top priority. With that in mind, below is information regarding arrival and dismissal expectations. Please follow all traffic laws and show compassion and empathy towards each other, our students, and our staff. If you need clarification, please feel free to reach out.
Car Riders: Parents are to drop off and pick up their students in the front of the school. Please use the right lane and pull forward as far as possible to allow more cars to enter the circle. Students should enter and exit the vehicle from the right side. Parents should not park in the bus ramp. At the end of the school day, students are encouraged to exit the school quickly through the front entrance and look for their parent vehicles. As students get into their cars and traffic moves, please pull up to the furthest open spot to keep traffic flowing and ensure student safety.
Bus Riders: For information on bus routes and services, please visit on this webpage (if your child is using for bus service). All bus riders should be at their designated bus stop 10 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time. At the end of the day, students exit from the commons at dismissal. Students should board their bus immediately to avoid missing their transportation.
Walkers: Students walking to and from school will leave from the front entrance of the school. Remind your student to always be aware of the traffic around them, don't wear headphones while walking, and use the designated crosswalks or pedestrian lights when crossing the street.

Nurse Updates
We are pleased to help oversee any medication administration that must occur during school hours. However, we must comply with Texas State Law, and therefore the following restrictions apply to student medicine management while at school.
- All medications must be brought in by a parent/guardian in the original container. This includes prescription and non-prescription drugs, including cough drops. The child should not be sent to school with medications to bring to the clinic. Students are not allowed to carry their own meds to and from school. Please do not send loose pills in a baggy in your child’s lunch kit or backpack. If your child must take prescription medications at school and at home, please ask your pharmacist to dispense them in two separate, properly labeled containers so that we may keep one at school.
- All medications must be kept in the clinic office. For the protection of all students, medications may not be kept by students, including inhalers and cough drops, unless givenwritten permission by their personal physician.
- All medications must be submitted with written instructions from a parent. All prescription medications also need a signature of a physician. An appropriate medication administration form must be completed by the parent or guardian and should include the child’s full name and amount of medication to be taken, reason for taking the medication, and the time it is to be given. Over-the-counter medications (such as Advil or Tylenol) can only be given according to the label directions for your child’s age and weight unless accompanied by a note from a physician. Any medication needed for more than 15 school days requires a note on file from a physician. Medications needed three times a day should be given at home around school hours ~ check with your child’s physician.
- School personnel will not give any medication unless provided by the parent. We do not house OTC meds that can be given randomly for fevers or pain.
- Medications must be picked up at the end of the school year by an adult. They cannot be sent home with the students or housed over the summer. Any meds left in the clinic at the end of the year will be discarded per district policy.
Note:
All students (new and returning) are required to stay up to date by receiving the necessary vaccinations in order to enroll or start school.
