We can't believe we have already started another month of school!
Teachers have been working very diligently in making sure they get to know their students strengths and areas of improvement. Please make sure you check your child's progress report and if you have any questions and/or concerns don't hesitate to reach out to the teacher.

COLUMBUS DAY: Commemorates Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Americas, and celebrates Italian immigrants' history and culture.
INDIGENOUS PEOPLES DAY: Celebrates Native American culture and heritage, and recognizes the challenges they continue to face.

Note from the Nurses' Department
Washing your hands is the most effective way to prevent the spread of back to school bugs!
Kindergarten students must submit a current health exam and proof of immunizations by Tuesday October 15th in order to avoid school exclusion per Illinois State Board of Education school code. Thank you to those who have sent them already!
The Loyola mobile van will visit again on October 8th, 2024. All appointments are booked! We hope to host the van again this spring!
Please talk with your children about not sharing food with classmates in the cafeteria. This is to keep students with food allergies safe at school.
- When you send your student to school, you are attesting that your student is in good health and ready for learning. Follow these guidelines on when to return to school for our top three symptoms of illness:
-Fever (100.0 or higher): The student may return to school after being fever free 24hrs without fever reducing medication.
-Vomit: The student may return to school after being free of vomiting for 24hrs.
-Diarrhea: The student may return to school after being free of diarrhea for 24hrs.
Miles of Smiles is returning to Graves/HMS in February for dental exams! These exams meet State of IL requirements for Kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 6th grade. D104 Action Plan for Truancy:
The District has a truancy intervention plan in place which will be implemented via social worker and administrators after a student starts being truant.
After 10 Days:
Truancy letter regarding absence concerns (indicating the dates of absences) will be mailed.
After 15 Days:
• Truancy letter will be mailed and added to file.
• Building administrator will meet with the student and contact the parent regarding concern.
• Attendance intervention plan will be implemented via social worker and administrator.
From 15-20 Days:
• Truancy letter will be mailed on each subsequent absence and added to file.
• Building administrator will facilitate meeting with parent to discuss concerns.
• Social worker will provide resources for student/family counseling as well as agency support.
• Attendance intervention plan will be restructured as needed.
20 + Days:
• Truancy letter will be mailed on each subsequent absence and added to file.
• Attendance intervention plan will be restructured as needed.
• Building administrator will contact SRO for home visit.
TECHNOLOGY DEVICES
As stated in the student handbook the policy states:
The district will assume the cost of parts and labor associated with all repairs deemed due to natural failure. If the technical department determines a failure due to damage, the student will be responsible for any hardware costs needed to return the device to a functional state. The district will assume all labor costs associated with damage repairs. Cosmetic damage will not be charged or repaired.

School Uniform Reminder
GRAVES K-5 Student Dress Code
SHIRTS/TOPS
Plain maroon collared polo or dress shirt with long or short sleeves is required. Plain black or white undershirts may be worn under the maroon collared shirt. Shirts must extend to waistline. Plain black or maroon sweaters or sweatshirts may be worn over the collared maroon polo or dress shirt or over a plain white or black undershirt. *Maroon or black hoodies are allowed.
PANTS
Must be SOLID black or khaki and worn at the waist. This includes shorts (knee length), capri pants, and skirts (knee length). Leggings may be worn, but only when a shirt extending to mid-thigh is worn as well.
FRIDAY SCHOOL SPIRIT
Students may wear any shirts given or bought through Graves School with Jeans.
*Please note that blue jeans are only allowed on Fridays with a school shirt.
PBIS FUNDRAISER & HOLIDAY DRESS-DOWN DAYS
There will be days when students will be allowed to come without uniform due to PBIS activities or holidays. A flyer will be posted via Seesaw when those days occur.

Treats & Snacks Policy
We ask that parents do not send in birthday treats for students to distribute. Please read below, as taken from the 2023-2024 District 104 Handbook:
Treats & Snacks [PreK-5] 1.80 Due to health concerns and scheduling, no birthday treats are allowed. Treats will be limited to certain school-wide celebrations.

Graves PBIS Grade Level Events
Our students had their first PBIS Grade Level Events this past Friday for great behavior and following the school-wide expectation: Following Directions/Listening for the month of September.
Kindergarten: Outdoor Game Stations
1st Grade: Chalk and Bubbles
2nd Grade: Field Play
3rd Grade: Trip to Legion Park
4th Grade: Movie
5th Grade: Extra Gym Recess
More events to come at the end of every month.
School-Wide Expectation for the Month of October:
Being on Task and Demonstrating Great Behavior
*As a reminder, students with 2 or more MINOR REFERRALS and/or 1 MAJOR REFERRAL will not be able to participate and will reflect on their behavioral referrals.
