Mr. Matias'
September Principal's Statement
“Deepening Faith and Education in 23-24”
Up the sidewalk and through the double doors the student walks, the parent turns their head eagerly to reassure themselves that their child has made it to their destination. Some days the child turns around and goes for a second hug. Some days the parent calls the student back; the parent themself needs their own reassurance. The love, care, support, and trust our families have each day is a great thing to witness. As we finish up our first month of school, the students and faculty have established a routine. A routine for some that starts with us at 7AM and doesn't end until 5:30. The faculty we have this school year is a dedicated group of caring educators and people leading our children.
The theme for this year is Deepening Faith and Education with a goal to enhance and create new innovative ways to think and carry out our faith. As we address new goals on campus such as new parking lots, alignment in curriculum, and reading across all courses, we ask for patience. Success with change takes time, support, and consistent reevaluation. We are not a stagnant campus and we thrive differently than 5, 10, or 20 years ago. Over the summer, we were able to accomplish many improvements on campus and experience growth in numbers. Effects and impact of this growth are a top priority when we consider class schedules, classrooms, admission, and strategic planning. With this being said, it is time for us to evaluate strategic ways on campus to support change, growth, and excellence. We currently have 4 grades broken into thirds with an average class size of around 17. We have seen great results from this format, and we are looking for parent feedback on the possibility of expanding into 3 classes across campus. Parent support and contributions will be critical to a successful expansion campaign. The church is nearing completion of phase one and two of the cathedral center, and a third phase for a junior high is in the feasibility phase. As part of our feasibility phase, we want to gauge the thoughts and support of our current families. We ask that you complete this brief anonymous survey:

Library News
Welcome back to the OLV Library! The library is continuing to grow with new
books and new furniture. As we think about the Fall season and all the changes
that occur during this beautiful season, I want to bring your attention to another
change. We all know our world is changing. Ideas and values are changing. This
change is now
appearing in the books that our children are reading. I want to assure you that I
select books that align with Catholic and Christian values. If you as a parent
notice anything that may not be in alignment, please send me an email, and I will
reevaluate the material.
