Fossil Hill Weekly Newsletter
October 20, 2024
Hello Panther Families
I hope you had a great week with your students! We are officially into the second nine weeks. The next nine weeks will be filled with holidays, sporting events, concerts, and celebrations. With that being said we must keep the main thing the main thing and that is academics. I do not want anymore students to be impacted by no pass, no play. So students must dig deep so that they are passing all of their classes. Even if a student is not involved we want to ensure they are successful in all areas.
If you are able to donate we are taking candy donations. Please bring them to the office attention Dr. Williams.
Also, if you or your company has lanyards that you would like to donate, please send them our way. You can also put them attention Williams.
Upcoming Events
Click on the title above to share a shout-out to a teacher or staff member who is going above and beyond for your student. We would love to have a few of these each week to share with our staff and teachers. Thank you!
Canvas for Parents
This year all middle school students will be using Canvas to access online course work. This will replace Google Classroom. As a parent, you are able to join your studentβs Canvas account as an observer, which will allow you to see teacher and classroom information, a course syllabus, assignments, due dates, missing work, important dates, etc.
This Parent Canvas Academy slideshow is very useful in creating your parent account.
Helpful Tips:
Your student will need to provide you with an access code. (Slideshow: slide 5)
You will need to access Canvas using the Kellerisd.instructure website.
https://kellerisd.instructure.com/login/canvas
The Canvas Student app is a great way to observe your studentβs Canvas courses once you gain access.
Special thanks to 121 Community Church for the work they are doing on our campus this weekend. They will be up at the school today until 12 PM finishing up their project for Fossil Hill.

School Lunch Time
Keller ISD participates in the federal lunch program. Quality food is available at a reasonable cost.
The following procedures will be observed so the program may function properly:
- Students may bring lunches for themselves prepared at home. A guardian may bring βtake outβ food for their child; however, bringing food for other students is not permitted.
- Guardians who drop off food will need to drop the food off prior to the student's assigned lunch time.
- Food may not be delivered by someone who is not on the student contact list
- No food items will be accepted that are delivered by a mobile ordering and delivery marketplace such as GrubHub, DoorDash or etc.
- Food or drink is NOT eaten out of the cafeteria zone.
- Students shall conduct themselves in a mannerly and orderly way during lunch.
- Fossil Hill Middle School is a closed campus; therefore, students may not leave campus to eat lunch unless signed out by a parent.
- In order for an adult to eat with a student, the adult must be listed as an emergency contact. An eating location other than the cafeteria will be made available.

How do I put money in a studentβs account?
www.schoolcafe.com/KELLERISD will facilitate adding money to a studentβs account. To provide you with a detailed purchase history from the school cafeteria, low balance reminders, automated payments and more, School CafΓ© adds a small fee (5%) to certain online payments. These fees cover the operational and administrative costs of providing the convenience of these services.
Can I put money in my student's account without using School CafΓ©?
Yes. You may deposit cash or check directly with the cafeteria manager at your studentβs school, leave it with your studentβs front office so they can take it to the cafeteria, or bring it to the Child Nutrition office. The Child Nutrition office is located at 11300 Alta Vista Road, Keller, TX, 76244.
Does School CafΓ© save my credit card information?
There is an option to save your information for future payments. You can also set up the payment as a one-time payment and your information will not be saved in the School CafΓ© portal.
How do I receive a refund from my student's account?
To receive a refund from your studentβs account, please call the Child Nutrition office at 817- 744-3981.

π± Cell Phone Policy π±
Keller ISD has implemented a new cell phone policy aimed at reducing student distractions and minimizing interruptions to the learning process.
While students are permitted to have cell phones, they must keep them powered off and stored in a bag, purse, or backpack throughout the school day. This encompasses class time from the first to the last instructional period, passing periods, restroom breaks, and lunch.
View all the information on the new policy here.

πVaping - New Consequences
Students vaping in schools have become such a significant problem statewide that the state of Texas passed new legislation this summer to address the issue. House Bill 114 will make it mandatory to place a student caught with a vape into a disciplinary alternative education program (DAEP). Families, please speak to your student(s) routinely about not using nor being in possession of any e-cigarette on any KISD campus or at events.

πΎ Panther Clubs πΎ
At FHMS, clubs and organizations are offered to all students. The goal of all clubs and extracurricular organizations at FHMS is to help each student become involved and realize his/her potential. Information about our clubs and organizations can be found via our campus website: FHMS Website. Click on the Activities tab and then click the club of your choice. Clubs and student organizations are a vital part of FHMS, and students are encouraged to become involved. Educational statistics prove that students who are involved in clubs and extracurricular activities make better grades and are more likely to succeed in life after high school. The information in our Activities tab will assist students in deciding which clubs to join.
